since the monday before last Ive been popping anywhere from 2-4 blue footballs (xanex) and 2-4 750 vicodin everyday.

and since then every morning ive been waking up with a killer stomach ache.

so my question is; Are the pills making my stomach hurt? Im guessing its mostly the vicodin since theres lots of ibuprofen in them..

Vicodin has acetaminophen, not ibuprofen. It's much worse for your stomach, but thats still a relatively small amount youre ingesting.

I'm guessing you have some underlying problemo. Maybe a tiny ulcer or something, and that tylenol is just making it unhappy.

Or do you forget to eat? Opiates arent great on the stomach themselves.

Really, though, if you care, try not taking pills. See if it helps. But the benzos shouldn't cause any stomach problems. Ativan actually seems to settle my stomach sometimes.

Of course, OP could just be calling hydrocodone/ibuprofen pills 'vicodin'. If they ARE ibuprofen as opposed to APAP then that would explain the stomachache. APAP is not very hard on the stomach (especially at 3 grams max a day) but moreso on the liver. Not eating doesn't help.

Just because the pharmacist told you it was actual Vicodin doesn't mean anything. Your doctor checks a box on the prescription saying if you can substitute or not. If he did write substitute they may have given you Vicoprofen. Possibly it's that the pills are hard on your stomach. Are you eating on them? If not I say eat a little more and take zantac(otc ranitadine) a couple times a day.

Keep on going for a few more weeks man... its so fun! if you're stomach is hurting while taking the pills then just eat a meal before you take them, or right after. Having some food in you is the key.

A couple years ago I was prescribed a bunch of vicodin for my wisdom tooth extraction, and before that I had been taking darvocets every day. Eventually I'd wake up with a relentless stomach ache every morning that wouldn't go away until I ate more vicodin. Once the pills started kicking in, the pain subsided 100%. But if I wasn't on anything, it would be hurting. Kind of like a sharp bloated pain. But eventually when my script ran dry, the pain went away for good after 4 or 5 days of being sober.

pharmacists can substitute generics for brand name drugs ONLY if the generic has the EXACT same ingredients, in the exact same dosages, and the exact same mechanism of action (he cant swap extended release for IR or vice versa)

If he was prescribed vicodin, the pills he got have the exact same active ingredients (hydrocodone & APAP) no matter what company makes them.

And, the pharmacist absolutely would not tell him he was getting vidocin if he was getting vicoprophen. That would be hugely illegal.

Also, why would you suggest taking another drug if he isn't eating on the pills? Taking vicodin with meals is the first thing someone should try if it upsets their stomach. He should only try taking stomach meds as well if he is eating on them and still feeling sick.
BTW the stomach discomfort associated with vicodin is nausea, not the pain that OP is describing. And it would be while he is on them, not the next day.

My guess is it could be a daily withdrawal type synddrome. stomach pain/cramps is a common withdrawal symptom. you said you have been using 2 weeks? well since vicodin is a shortacting opioid you could be getting withdrawal from it. You take it during the day and you goto bed and it wears off after a few hours, by the time you wake back up there is no more opioids attached to opioid receptors in your stomach causing some stomach related withdrawal symptoms. If after you dose again the symptoms go away it could be this. Are you getting other sypmtoms, like diarreha, head aches, shitty feeling, nausea/vomting, runny nose, yawning, sweats, teary eyes?
it is just a theory. Other thing it could be as already said is a ulcer. If it is bleeding you should be able to detect the digested blood in you shit. Best thing to do would be to goto your doctor and get tested for the ulcer causing bacteria h. pylori. If the doc finds that you have an ulcer he can prescibe you a proton pump inhibitor or acid reducer and antibiotic to kill off the bacteria.

Appendicitis is not something you can deal with for two weeks it gets really painful 12-72 hours after you first star showing signs. you can check your self by doing this:

Guarding refers to the tensing of muscles in response to touch. " when you press on the abdomen, it doesnt really hurt, but when you release the pressure it tends to haver a rebound pain effect.

When I was taking codeine all day everyday for a broken collar bone, I didn't notice that I hadn't shit in 3 days, I just kept eating my pills and slowly building a gut wrenching pain, then I told my mom of the pain (mom is a nurse) and she told me the obvious problem.

Eat bran, maybe some flax seed and if worse comes to worse, a gel suppository. I had to do it and it was a bummer (no pun! lol) and it worked for me within the afternoon and I was horribly relieved.

Staying away from alc would be right. But antacids are unnecessary because if his doctor new what he/she was doing they would have prescribed him a proton pump inhibitor which basically shuts off the acid pumps.
