Scraping money from the belly of society...
Over the last few years, I've realized that money is literally everywhere to be had. Those who have no money are not helpless and poor, they are simply not innovative or ambitious enough to find it. Don't get me wrong, I work my ass off at a job I love, and I earn a (semi)legitimate income. But there's nothing wrong with wanting a little more, and also getting satisfaction from having virtually free money. All you have to do is track it down.
Our economy is full of little cracks where money slips into nowhere, and while this may not be very significant to some, it all adds up in the long run. These "cracks" cut into every facet of our life, and listing all of them may well be impossible. One easy example would be to recycle items for the deposit. Often times I find myself getting up at 4:15 in the morning to drive around residential neighborhoods and steal their beer cans and water bottles. If I hustle, I can make about $10.00/hr cash all said and done, which is $2.00 over minimum in my area. That's nothing to sneeze at, especially to those who don't even have a job. If you don't mind getting a little dirty, then go out and dig for some money in those recycle bins.
Would anybody on Totse know of another way we can take advantage of floating money and slowly make ourselves filthy rich?

Congratulations on making $10 an hour!
The problem with most glory holes is nobody pays, your money through the crack before a homeless person sucks you off is genius!

It's not necessarily about the legitimate income. I already work more than I can handle, and I make decent money for someone my age. I just get my jollies from knowing that I'm getting money by unconventional means.

Tom: Obviously there is dumpster diving. Selling stuff from them will always bring in money if you know what stuff is worth.
Another good way is to sell stuff you find on the streets. Everytime you go for a walk, keep your eyes constantly scanning the road/gutter/footpath and you'll be surprised at what you can find. Then sell it on Ebay or at a pawn shop for quick cash.
Garage sales are also good sources. Look for ones where it looks like they may be moving as these usually yield the cheapest goods.

Goto a supermarket carpark on a real windy day & chuck a dollar bill sized peice of paper in the air & watch where it goes.
Stay there & chances are someone will let go of some money & thats where it will end up.
Check the trollys too, people leave wallets/purses in them all the time, well at least one a day, maybe lots more.
One trolly guy found 3 ina day here.

Um, the wind changes within a few moments...and even if it doesn't, that's a pretty random thing. And what the fuck are you expecting anyway? People to walk out of the store, and while standing on the X you've marked out, let some money slip from their hand and then just let it go...as it slowly blows over to a man standing strategically in the corner of the parking lot, downwind from the X?
Fuck you're dumb.
OP, my advice is to limit your frivolous expenses. People spend too much on food, furniture, clothes, name brand products, new cars....it's all money down the drain. I don't know what is worth splurging on, I guess it's different for everyone. A lot of people like to be able to travel. Others might just want a nice place to live, or to have a little vacation house to go to. Or just to have enough savings to retire before they are really old.
I might be moving into an unfurnished house next year...rather than spend hundreds of bucks on a bed and dresser and desk and shit, I'm going to hit up craigslist's free section, and anything I can't get there, I will check out the for sale section. Cheap, cheap.

Re: Scraping money from the belly of society...
I believe you guys are missing the point entirely. I have a job that I like very much, and I make plenty of money to buy everything I need. However, there's nothing wrong with making more as sort of a hobby instead of work.
Today, I got up at 4:30 A.M. and collected recyclables for two hours. It came to a total of $26.00 and change. While I did spend some time crushing/washing/sorting the loot, it's still decent money. And I don't feel like I "worked" for one second. It was done completely for the love of digging money out of the garbage.

New Zealanders don't have $1 notes. They have coins. How are you doing this unless you are not a kiwi.

I thought of a good way of making some money with a grage sale but not selling your stuff. You goto the free stuff section in craigslist and similar websites and go and collect up all that free junk and have a garage sale. The only thing is you have to pay for gas to pick up the stuff.

Well, I got two $5 notes as change once (that pissed me off, I shoulda got a $10 note & I didn't get the discount I was expecting on the stuff I brought, but knew there would not be any difference if I went anywhere else)
So I go out to my car & as I'm putting the stuff inside the car, the wind rips a $5 note out of my wallet (thats on the car roof) & it just disappears.
Fukkit, I'm so pissed off I'm not even gonna bother looking for it...
If I got the $10 note I would have been happy & the note would have slid into the wallet, not like the two $5 notes that got caught up & didn't go right in.
Next time I was there I noticed how the wind eddys caught the rubbish & it ended up in a corner being swirled around in a 15 - 20 foot dia circle.
Anyway, people do leave their wallets in the trollys by mistake.
