Marinol
My girlfriends mom is a doctor here in Ohio and she was telling me the other say about how she perscribes some of her patients Marinol. Now if I'm not mistaken this is just synthetic THC right? I was surprised to hear her say that she's prescribed it before. Is Marinol legal for perscription all over the US, and medical marijuana isn't? That confusing to me. Can someone shed some light on this for me.
Another side question. I know it's kind if stupid but if Marinol is legal where medical marijuana is not then why do we never see it on the streets? I mean obviously I can just go and buy a bag of weed if i want to get high but it still seems strange to me that I've never heard of Marinol on the streets.

Re: Marinol
I'm not sure how marinol is legal where weed isnt. It may have something to do with scheduling of marijuana seperate from THC, but I'm just guessing.
As for the black market, I've seen them bought and sold illicitly. I've never taken them myself, but from what I've heard they're a major let down.
Remember THC is only one of the dozens of active cannabinoids in marijuana, but its the only one in marinol.

Re: Marinol
Ohio? I was under the impression they had very lax marijuana laws. For one it's decriminalized (anything under an ounce is a hundred dollar ticket, I think).
I'm pretty sure you have medical marijuana, too. As for marinol on the streets; sure, I've seen it numerous times, and at festivals too. Never taken them, because I've always heard 'it just made me hungry'. Makes sense, they're usually given to anorexics, people going through chemo, or in (rare cases) a patient prescribed to a stimulant for whatever reason.

Actually medical marijuana isn't legal anywhere in the united states as under federal law it is still illegal and federal law supersedes state law. The DEA just uses their discretion in not busting people for medical weed because it would piss to many people off.

Not exactly true. The DEA does raid pot clubs in CA on occasion, and there has never been any kind of political backlash. However, the federal narcotics enforcement agencies are, thankfully, too under funded and preoccupied with stopping real drugs to put up anything more than a symbolic resistance to medicinal marijuana.

Re: Marinol
well apparently THC becomes sorta malevolentely psychadelic when it doesnt have a dozen other cannabinoids regulating the experience.

I know a friend who has breast cancer, and she used those pills once. According to her, they dont really do much other than ease the sickness and pain from chemo.

Re: Marinol
Marijuana is an illegal plan which bears THC.
Marinol is a pharmaceutical product containing a fully synthetic THC which is infused in sesame oil.

Re: Marinol
The hypocrisy confuses me as well. It's like making apple juice legal, but apple trees illegal.
I've never read a positive first-person account regarding marinol, but then again, I haven't thoroughly researched it. Seems like nobody likes it that much though.

Re: Marinol
I've found it before in Central Ohio, so it's probably not out of reach for you. It really isn't worth the trouble of getting it though, it was kind of like eating weed but less intense. I got a small body buzz and some serious munchies, plus they were way overpriced.

Re: Marinol

Apperantley cannabinoids like CBD downregulate the OMFGIMGOINGINSANE-ey effects of THC into a more calm trip.
Its what the whole Indica vs. Sativa thing is about, one of them has a high THC/CBD ratio, and thus is more heady and trippy, and the other has a high CBD/THC ratio and is more 'stoney'
At least thats what I gather from wikipedia :P

Re: Marinol
Marinol... my brother has it prescibed to him bc he has metal plates in his neck and he was able to claim "chronic" pain... thus the Dr after 2 years gave him a prescript for some acgtual 'chronic'.
He gets 60 free a month paid by Medicare.
The stuff is awesome if you like THC. Taking 2 on an empty stomach will keep you 'high' for over 5 hours.
There really isn't a chance of OD'ing because you'll just get so high that you fall asleep.
Side effects include wanting to eat EVERYTHING in sight though.
If you have the chance to try it.. you should... just remember to take on an empty stomach.. and take at least 2.
Prescribed dosage is 1 pill, 2 times a day... so if taken as instructed... the effects are not near as intense.
