Default To give up your life, yay or nay?

I was watching a program about a young girl from some foreign country, and some of our troops were over there for some reason or another, and this young girl met a young marine, and love blossoms, etc etc.

Now, this was a true story, and she hid the fact that she was a princess from him so that he wouldnt see her differently, eventually the truth comes out, and her family will not except her chosen love, and she escapes with him to america.

Long story short, through a ton of court battles and such, they end up married. She was only 17 when she left her family, and the female in me was swooning over this love they had found.

Then, the end of the program, some text comes on the set saying that they divorced 5 years later.

What is it about love that leads us to be stupid and give up everything we have? Leave our families, our homelands/hometowns, just give up our entire lives for that one person?

Stupidity. It's people letting themselves become lovedrunk and forgetting about the reality of life. That on top of ignoring the things you may hate about the person at the time and brushing them off as if they don't matter because after 5, 10, 25, 50 years of marriage those things can only become more and more unbearable over time.

Honestly, what is the fucking point of getting married besides getting money and sex + whatever else(And don't tell me love, the only reason you believe it exists is because mental barriers in your mind tell you that it does.)
I WISH those fairy tales were real.

I do beleive in marriage, just not giving up everything you have to be married.

In a few years, I'd like to be married, have a couple of kids, work in my field, and call it a day.

I think marriage is a partnership, neither party should be getting more than the other, and I'd gladly sign a prenup.

Wow that's messed up LOL

I dunno, I don't see the point in looking at marriage as some lifelong goal. Getting married does not mean you saved the princess, why give up your whole world for it?

Love makes people stupid, tis true :(

Yeah I'm not sure. I don't intend to get married but I'd like a lifelong partner/s. I don't know why people do such dumbass things, maybe because those people are retarded in the first place.

Yeah I'd say that's it.

I think the high divorce rates tell us something about the tradition of marriage: that it really isn't working for most people.

You can get money and sex outside of marriage.

It's about stability, or at least it used to be, and it's about your social standing. There is a very powerful difference in how people perceive someone who cheats on his live-in girlfriend versus someone who cheats on his wife-- even if the former has children.

People who think marriage is about love have got it all fucked up. Marriage is a political and legal institution that establishes a new family and cements an alliance between two established families. Love in a marriage is what develops between two people who spend their lives together toward a common purpose.

I've been reading totse since '02. Hopefully I'd remember something so ridiculously important as who is female and who is not.

Plus, I saw your pics. You posted the pirate one recently, if I remember right.

I know this just because I am male, and any guy who says otherwise knows it but won't admit he knows it. Either because of stupidity, guilt, or reasons that I haven't explored yet.

We only get to experience existence once( as far as I know)

And being in love is one of the most blissful experiences I have encountered.

It might be worth it

The only way to give up your life is to die. If you're scared of change, you're only going to fall behind and stagnate.

Who wants to live with their family forever? Why stick to your hometown/homeland? There's a lot out there to experience.

Marriage is a commitment and people should take some time before they jump into that level of commitment.

I thought this post would be about jumping in front of a bullet for someone. I would do that if I really loved them.

I feel bad for you I_like_pie, you must have a very sad and lonely existance.

I'm not going to pound into your head that love is real, it is an emotion, nothing more than a feeling.

But, you cannot deny that sometimes you feel happy, sad, ecstatic, miserable.

Yeah, love is merely a human emotion, but it is existant.

You are a dumb fucking shit. You realize that?

She was a princess of another country, they fuckin disowned her, she is not welcome back, she has shamed her entire family and therefore shamed herself.

I guess it was a little much to expect a dumbfuck to know anything about foreign culture.

Yes.
I'm no longer me, but an observer of me, life, and mental processes.
I don't get offended
embaressed
angry
happy
sad
confused
empathetic
Until I'm on a stage in front of people for 30 minutes, then I return to the emotionless, totally closed to every human being looking for a connection, mental bastion that is me.

Nothing I say comes from me, it comes from random voids (for lack of a better word) in my brain that I'm not supposed to even be aware of.
I have no control in any aspect of a conversation, because I already know what the answer and filler are going to be and it PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF UNDERNEATH WHATEVER THE FUCK IS GOING ON!!!!

No.
It has it's advantages (In person, I'll never find a reason to complain)
and it's consequences (never feeling emotions during conversing, feeling spaced out 24/7, always an invisible barrier between me and everyone)
And now I'm off for another 30 minutes of being myself.

You explain it by explaining the sensations, thoughts and reactions that come with the emotion.
I have none of those for anything.
You don't have whatever I have, so It's pretty clear that you have never been in the state of mind that i'm in nearly every day. You wouldn't understand. (And this is a good thing I promise you)
NO, I am not a moron that says he has a mental disorder because it's trendy/mysterious/etc.
NO, I don't want your goddamn attention I want A CURE FOR WHATEVER THIS IS!!!!
My perception is not the same anymore. I don't know what event caused it, but there IS something going wrong.

P.S. No the context of this is not one of anger/emo/desperation
It's plain flatline neutral/careless.
