Unethically replying to a closed thread...
Sure. Normally, one isn't supposed to do this, but while it was originally going to be a reply to...
morning glory seeds. Ive tried this shit so many times with no results... First time I ate like 1000 but threw them all up
...but I figured I'd post it anyway for one simple reason - it's also the proper reply to a lot of things which are said around here, such as "morning glory alkaloids are not a drug," or "it's much weaker than LSD," or even "it's a kiddie drug."
556's definition on that was sort of nice. It makes puking your guts out a kiddie drug, but not the ipomea itself. Nonetheless, there's a proper reply to the above-quoted, and all such like it as well.

...and yes. For those of you wondering, a long, long, long time ago - longer even than the statute of limitations on the posession of a CIII - I have seen with my own eyes beautiful white rocks of the conjoined alkaloids of ipomea violacea.
Were I hell-bent, I could have grown them into beautiful shards of any organic salt, too, though the shock-precipitated fluff is truer to the original plant. Instead, such things having been dropped in my hand by a mysterious elf, I am ashamed to say that I simply absorbed them into a vial of sour liquid candy (the greatest invention on earth) before the base degraded.
...and it was good. But those with true doubt are welcome to try the syringe in the 100mg of the tartarate range, oh ye of little faith.
Anyways...

Woah! A JP original thread. You don't see that every day....
Ah...Questions: the concentrated alkaloids spoken of are primarily (or at least primarily active because of) LSA? How does one perform such an extraction? Or is it common knowledge (didn't have time to run a full search). Also, would such an extraction turn out precursor-grade LSA?

Its not too hard to find a few extraction methods. Before you do it just fact check the procedure for validity, and proceed with caution.

Bitter much? :P
I locked the original because it was getting very dumb. I'm all for serious LSA talk, but that other thread was half unintelligible and half half-baked. Is that quarter-baked?

What a worthless thread, get this shit out of here.
Pshaw. That's "worthless introductory post" to the likes of you; the thread itself develops into whatever we make of it!
the length of that needle makes me shiver.
Lol... someone has a history of IV use, I take it? ;)
I originally had a more reasonable insulin pin there, but found out that the site I got it from just embedded an off-site image from the DEA webpage...
I figured we didn't really need to give the fucking DEA an IP harvester for BLTC, lol...
Bitter much? :P
Not really - but unlike the extraction of ipomea, the extraction of ephedra is very, very bitter. ;)
To be fair to SN, though, it's pretty easy when one is tired, stressed, or doesn't have a lot of time to "moderate on automatic," and that would make it fairly easy for anything which looked like reposting a closed thread to get locked without reading the content, even if it shouldn't have - not too long ago, meta accidentally locked a thread because he confused the 12,000 character limit with the 5 character limit in one of his more tired moments...
Ah...Questions
Aha! Now this is where I was evilly hoping the thread would end up!!

{syringe optional unless talking shit} ;)
Questions: the concentrated alkaloids spoken of are primarily (or at least primarily active because of) LSA?
Well... that's two questions...
Questions: the concentrated alkaloids spoken of are primarily LSA?
By a good margin, the faint majority tends to be a racemate of iso/LSA, and it tends to have vast predominance over any other single compound (and its iso- analogue).
Questions: the concentrated alkaloids spoken of are primarily active because of LSA?
Well... that's under signifigant debate.
While experiences outside of the 500ug injection of hoffman suggest that LSA itself might indeed be active, there is also speculation that the various alkylergines - which are in fact known to be active - contribute greatly to the effect.
This is especially true in light of the unique empathogenic afterglow of the 'heavenly blue' subvariety (pictured)... the isopropanolergine, known to be present, is also a known oxytocic.
Also, would such an extraction turn out precursor-grade LSA?
That depends on what you're looking for.
If you're hell-bent on finding out what the fuck 2-methylergine does, with absolutely no 2-methylalkylergines produced, then it is at best "technical grade" and will need a little cleanup to aqquire pure ergine.
If you're asking "could I use this as a source to create lysergic acid anhydride," well... yes. :D
How does one perform such an extraction?
hehehe...
This is what I've been looking foward to - and I'm hoping to make y'all do all the work, too. ;)
Let's start at a good starting place for this question : what are known vectors which degrade lysergic acid derivatives?
Answer that, and the question will come close to answering itself. Plus, it'll be a fun process...

...AND YOU'RE 20% OF THE THREAD, NIGGA!!!
Heat, certain light wavelengths, and halogens.
Ding!! :D
So, let's, umm... organize this... maybe even...
Joepedo, are you autistic?
...rain-man style! 'cause lawd knoez, an obsessive tendancy towards organization is fun...
...more OCD than autistic, but fun.
Heat, certain light wavelengths, and halogens.
So...
Energy :
- heat.
- light.
Chemical :
- halogens.
Hmm... I wonder what we can add to this...
...well...
http://www.plantphysiol.org/cgi/content/abstract/88/2/379
Iron can degrade indoles. Anyone with a Hive archive, I believe, even has much neater journal refs specific to LSD... or at least a discussion thread on it...
What else... ?
The reaction mixture was cooled to about 10 °C with an external ice bath, and acidified to a pH of about 3.0 by the dropwise addition of 2.5 N H2SO4. White solids started to appear early in the neutralization... The precipitated solids were removed by filtration and washed with Et2O until free of color. After drying under vacuum to a constant weight, there was obtained 3.5 g of d-lysergic acid hydrate, which should be stored in a dark, sealed container.
http://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/tihkal/tihkal26.shtml
Or for that matter...
http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2017238
...yes. Yes, it does appear that drastic pH variance can lyse the peptide bond between an organic acid and an alkylamine.
(and yes, I have been waiting a long-ass time to have an excuse quote TIHKAL #26 for the purpouses of actually discussing what's going on in the chemistry, lol...)
...so...
Energy :
- heat.
- light.
Chemical :
- halogens.
- extreme pH.
- iron.
...what else??
LSD is sensitive to oxygen...
http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Lysergic-acid-diethylamide
Aha!
Of course, as shulgin also notes, lysergic acid derivatives are also a little sensitive to water or alcohols, but on that count, we're frankly just a little fucked. There rather is no replacement solvent. So... we'll have to ignore that and hope for the best. Of course, shulgin notes that it's primarily photocatalyzed, 'n it's presumably an oxegenation addition, so it's sort of redundantly covered and as long as we keep from sun-baking it or maximizing the formation of H2O2 from environmental oxygen... hopefully, we'll minimize the production of lumi-LSA, and have to just accept any remainder we cannot change. Le sigh.
So, the final list...
Energy :
- heat.
- light.
Chemical :
- halogens.
- extreme pH.
- iron.
- oxygen.
Well... great! Now we've got our complete list, 'n I'll be back along in a little bit to jot down exactly how this list tells us precisely how to extract nice, clean lysergic goodness, all by itself...

Re: Unethically replying to a closed thread...
I have a lab under the permafrost in Greenland, staffed by bat-human hybrids adapted to a nitrogen atmosphere...
Sweet! I love how your genetically-engineered evil minions can pull an inert atmosphere - well, out of their ass - with only a little explosive decomposition!! :D
Me, I have... well, shit, I guess I'll take this as an excuse to continue.
In the great, great art of "pulling shit out of plants," there are usually two major starting points; making tea, and making a tincture.
Since a hundred gallons of ethanol is fucking expensive, and will pull crap that looks a lot more like...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Brea_Tar_Pits
...than...
http://www.purcellmountainfarms.com/Crystal%20Sugar.JPG
...we're probably going with the tea on this one. Tincture is fucking great for peppermint-oil cough drops. It makes a lovely green dragon. Alkaloids... require tea.
So... by virtue of energy(heat) and energy(light), we know what kind of teas we are and are not going to use. Boiling tea violates energy(heat), and sun tea - charming as it is, and usually good on heat-sensitive compounds - violates energy(light)...
Yes, folks, we're going to have to make a cold-brewed tea... {cue ominous music}
Luckily, most people have this thing called a "refrigerator." It's a device which tends to keep things at ~5c, and the little light doesn't even come on when the door is closed. Cool. 'n it just so happens that this magic fantasy machine is perfect for making cold-brewed tea...
So... looking at chemical(iron), I'll see your lab in greenland with evil minions, and match you with "I have... a glass pot with a lid!!"
Of course, due to chemical(halogen), we're going to have to do one of two things. The superior of these is to find gallons of some really, really bitchin' distilled water at the supermarket. The other option is to dechlorinate tap water.
It just so happens that when you bring water to a boiling point, the solubility of most gases in it tends to drop to about "jack shit." Yes, "about jack shit" is a highly precise technical term, don't worry if it's a little hard to follow. ;)
So, if we run our tap water through some filter to take out any fucking calcium salts in it, and then cheerfully proceed to bring it to a boil, we'll have taken care of chemical(halogen):subcategory(chlorine).
Of course, the water's still fluoridated, probably with sodium fluoride. One way to take care of that is to chuck in a capful of white vinegar. A really, really cool thing about dissolution in water is that it dissassociates and reassociates everything in really impossible ways... and a 1:1:1 ratio of sodium, fluorine, and acetic acid will in fact form the complex salt sodium fluoride acetate, despite this being fucking impossible.
If it should decide to degrade into something more firmly associated, well... some of it will be sodium fluoride, and some of it will be sodium acetate. 'n since decomposition into sodium fluoride leaves free acetic aid and decomposition into sodium acetate leaves free hydrofluoric acid, well, and since acetic acid boils at "slightly above boiling" and hydrofluoric acid boils at "fucktardedly below zero," that means that your hydrofluoric acid will keep boiling off into the air and enriching the acetic acid fraction.
Yay! No moar chemical(halogen).
Of course, since we just boiled off all our O2 and CO2 from the water, we might wanna keep it that way, on account of chemical(oxygen). One really easy way to do this is to just set the still-steaming pot on a board, toss a blanket over it as a thermal insulator, stick it in a plastic trash bag, squeeze all the air out, and partially inflate it with a helium tank from your local party supply store. 'n if you go to a health food store and pick up "ascorbic acid crystals," aka calcium triascorbate, you can even seed a few grams of a charming antioxidant into your water...
So, we've scratched chemical(halogen), chemical(oxygen), and chemical(iron), our chemical(extreme pH) should be pretty bloody neutral right about now, and all we have to do is set this baby in the fridge for a while and we'll have eliminated energy(light) and energy(heat). Perfect!
Only one problem... we forgot about chemical(lysergic alkaloids). Damn.
Go outside and pick as much morning glory vegetable matter as you possibly can. Yes, the seeds are the most potent part of the plant, but do you really want the DEA knocking on your door and asking "ascuze me sir, wry did u order 300 kilograms of lysergic acid bearing material when you live in an apartment complex that doesn't even have a yard or garden to plants them in?" while you're trying to make a few hundred gallons of tea? No, I didn't think so... so, yank the veggies and stuff them into a backpack, presumably from the places you seeded some heavenly blue or pearly gates so you didn't have to deal with some less-potent bastard ipomea with shit for lysergic content, and just... drag home a few backpacks of wild salad.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can even run freeze/thaw cycles in your freezer and refrigerator. Of course, while this can decrease brew time, it can also make this shit very hard to filter.
So... carefully using the trash bag as an airlock, one can then port the vegetable matter into the bag, stuff it in the glass pot - hopefully, there's enough space that it doesn't splash water, or you've got another glass pot in there - until you can literally not fit anything more in no matter how hard you press and everything's covered in water, and...
...leave it in the back of the fridge for a few days.
Absence of...
- energy(heat)... check.
- energy(light)... check.
- chemicals(iron)... check.
- chemicals(halogen)... check.
- chemicals(oxygen)... check.
- chemicals(extreme pH)... check.
Presence of...
- chemicals(lysergic alkaloidal goodness)... check.
Yeah, I bet you'd like to know what to do next, too, wouldn't ya... well, sucka, you're just going to have to wait. I've gotta pee, I've got some shit to do, and I'm probably bumping against the 12k char limit...
...besides, if you complete a week-long soak of electric iced tea before I get back, I'm probably dead, motherfucker. ;) Have fun, ibb...

I certainly hope so.
I found this entire post fascinating. I love psychedelics and have heard some rather good things about snakevines and their alkaloids, but even more so thinking of the application to other plants.
Then again, I'm sure it would be relatively easy to find an extraction and scale it up keeping in line with the protection of the alkaloids named on that list...
