Her birthday is coming up...
This sweet little lady's birthday is coming up on Dec. 12th. I'm in a crap situation in regards to gifts though: I'm in between jobs right now (moving from marketing into pharmaceuticals), and all my remaining funds are tied up in bills. I do oil paintings as a hobby, and thought it would be nice to paint her a bouquet of roses...the problem is that I don't have enough time to paint it, glaze it, and let it dry. I play guitar, but am not yet good enough to sing and play at the same time...so serenading is not an option.
Totse: What do I do? I want to give her something special...something that represents the warmth my heart has for her...something that acknowledges how strong she makes my chest sound. Should I just sing to her? Write some poetry? Make a drawing? All three?

Re: Her birthday is coming up...
Well you seem to be incredibly thoughtful, so I am positive that whatever you do for her, she will love :]
I would go the dinner route; maybe make her favorite food, with lots of candles and flowers if you can.
Maybe play guitar for her, and perhaps a drawing.
Or you could possibly make a little coupon book. Like, of things you would do for her/to her. It's a cute little side present and I'm sure it will make her smile.
Or perhaps make her a list of all the reasons you love her.

Re: Her birthday is coming up...
The roses painting would be very nice.
Don't bother with a song or poetry. Really, just don't.
How long have you been going out?
Jewelry always wins. Broadway show? Dinner out?
A combo of all three?
And a fucking nice bar of chocolate, green & black organic, is like $4 and adds way more than $4 worth to your bouquet of roses. So:
Flowers
Chocolate
Earrings\Necklace if you've got the cash
Show if you've got the cash
Dinner (mandatory).
Give her the flowers and chocolate as soon as you pick her up, don't tell her where you're going, get to the show. During the intermission, bring out the jewlery, but make her find it. Be like, oh shit, I just dropped my glasses under you seat, can you grab them for me? (have the box under her seat)
Then take here out to a nice restaurant, talk about the show, get a bottle of wine. When you get home, give her a fucking to remember. If you guys haven't said "I love you" yet, Birthdays are always good times for that.
Also, a *good* birthday card will mean alot to her and only cost you like $5 tops.
Lather Rinse Repeat brother.
(it's always worked for me ^_^)

Re: Her birthday is coming up...
Oh shit...my bad. Well, flowers, chocolate, birthday card and dinner still apply. Seriously, alot of girls feel it;s your responsibility to take them out to dinner, and even if she would never say that to you, she'll probably be a TAD dissapointed if there's no birthday dinner.

So, you've got GHB, right?

While I will admit, there probably a few girls out there that disagree with me, but I would sure as hell prefer my boyfriend to make me dinner, especially when I know he's short on cash.
But meh. That's just me.

My girlfriend feels the same way. Making dinner, especially one she likes will end up being much more thoughtful then being able to pay an $80 tab somewhere fancy.
Edit: When dinner is made at home, you are much closer to the bedroom. Which means that there's no long drive home to get her out of the good mood she's in. amirite pink smoke?

I'm sure she will really love whatever you come up with. Maybe a drawing with poetry on the back about it

Re: Her birthday is coming up...
I'm perpetually without funds, and even when I save up my quarters and borrow money from my parents to get him a gift, my boyfriend always prefers the things I've made myself. One year when he was really into comic books/graphic novels I used Photoshop to do lineart of a picture we took together, and then color it in all comic book style, and he loved it. Another year I gave him a really cheap framed photo and he still has it on his wall.
In general the gifts that are cheap but sentimental are the best ones. Make her something that is reminiscent of your relationship or even a reference to an especially good memory you share, or make her something that is relevant to her interests. The painting of the roses is a really sweet idea, so it's too bad you don't have time to do that.

Re: Her birthday is coming up...
Sketch out the roses in grand proportion and tell her that the painting will follow on her next birthday. Explain the reasoning behind the lack of a more "substantial gift", if she doesn't already know.
Making dinner's never a bad idea, but you know how you do what you do better than I.

Hmm, thanks Silverfuck. I need to figure out how to meld together zombie and geisha in a romantic way...or maybe I should leave the zombie out of the whole deal.

Lmao, that's some sixteen hundreds bullshit, that kinda stunt doesn't work anymore.
As for the present, make, print, and laminate a Get Out of Rape ticket that is only good for one use. Show it to her, and then hold her down and start to unbuckle your pants. She'll probably say something like, "What about the ticket?!"
This is where you can point at the "Good Until" date that you made in fine print, which is expired, and shake your head slowly as you put it in her butt.

You sir, are indeed right.
There isn't a better aphrodisiac then seeing the person you love do something thoughtful for you.
OP, I had another thought: is there any sort of maybe, sexual fantasy that she's always wanted to do? Perhaps if you do something a little out of the ordinary, that could make the evening memorable also. But then again, the tried and true methods are always great. Yay for birthday orgasms.
