Default so why is it again we use cold water/ice for water pipes?

wouldn't it be more logical to use hot water?

not only would hot water absorb more particles than cold water, it would also provide a gentle steam which would continue to trap smoke particles and would soothe the throat while inhaling.

so again, can some one please explain to me why it is we use cold water? I can understand in the case of nicotine, where a warmer water would allow more nicotine to be absorbed = undesired, however when it comes to cannabis, the obvious choice seems to be hot water (in the case of a large bong, boiling water even!)

hell you could introduce some aromatherapy inhalation vapors (mint, shit to open up the airways)..

so yea... try using hot water, see how it goes.

I think it cools the smoke.

When using a large bong i find i don't need much water at all to cool it, as it takes so long to get to my throat. Warm water would be fine imo. Ice and cold water is for when you want to pull smoke through really fast, either you have a narrow chamber or a small bong. Ice in a large bong seems to condense all the goodness preventing it entering the lungs. Just my baked out theory...

I don't know, I used to think that hot water would be desirable in a bong and I decided to try it

To wrap it up quick it tasted like we were smoking moldy weed and it just didn't feel right. The steam was good but it just seemed very undesirable.

Long story short I stick with ice cubes

Vaporized(smoked) THC would at least partially dissolve in boiling water.

"Fat-Soluble" and Hydrophobic are two completely different things.

i use cold water to cool the smoke an make it easier for me to inhale more. but after reading your post an thinking about it logically, i might just try some boiling water in my glass bong today. lets just hope i dont get a mouth full of that bong water.

I think cold water makes the smoke more dense, since the smoke is cooler AND there's a lack of significant water vapour, therefore allowing more THC per hit. If you want something to soothe your throat then put some kind of mint stuff in your bong... like a bunch of Altoids or just use ICED mint tea.

Warm water simply has much more potential than cold water to absorb vaporized THC.

Also, the cold water/ice allows for more smoke particles to be packed into the same surface area, allowing more THC per hit. Also, this causes the smoke to expand in your warm lungs, making you cough therefore helping to open up your lower bronchioles allowing more surface area for smoke to be absorbed = win.

Also, smoking with warm water would just be a little weird for me.

right so i did a side by side hot vs cold water bong test with a few friends.

the results came back as 2 preferring the cold, 1 preferring the hot, an 3 not noticing a difference. i personally like the cold water more.

Overall:

Warm/hot Water: Allows for one to take larger/ smoother hits

Cold(er) Water: Allows for more "dense" smoke, although has the tendency to produce more coughing as the smoke attempts to expand from the heat in your lungs

If you want something to soothe your throat then put some kind of mint stuff in your bong... like a bunch of Altoids or just use ICED mint tea.

At one point, I used to allow a few Ricolas to dissolve in my bong while packing it, and they helped my throat against the smoke when I had bronchitis

Cold water produces cool, easy to inhale smoke. Ice makes this even better.

Warm water produces disgusting, harder to inhale smoke.

I want to see someone try to smoke with boiling water and steam burn their throat.

The lulz would certainly ensue then.

i like cold smoke...

When smoke is hot it makes you cough faster, I get bigger hits off of ice bongs.Just my opinion though...
