Alright, so I was just wondering, how do you actually make it? Like I've read a few different things saying you spray starter fluid containing ether (or something like that) into a bottle/bag/whatever, mix with water, shake for a while, and siphon off the top part and that's your ether.

However, I've also read on the ether vault on erowid that doing this does something so that even less ether dissolves or whatever, and you end up with a shitty product containing other stuff then ether. And now I know that you can distill the ether (or so I've heard), but I was wondering, is there any easier way to do this? Does the water+starter fluid actually work?

Well actually I obviously showed that I already did some research about it when I asked whether or not the method I described would work and also said I've read that it doesn't. I'll do more research, but it's not like I come here asking questions all the time about dumb shit that's easy as fuck to find.

Anyways, to twotimintim, I was talking about Diethyl Ether, I probably should've said that in the first place. Like I said though, I'm gonna look up more about it, thanks though.

Alright, well it looks like the only real way to do it is either by distilling starter fluid, or making it by a mixture of ethyl alcohol and sulfuric acid, and then one other one I haven't quite looked at. So it looks like making ether is more difficult then I first thought, so oh well. If anyone does have any easy methods of making ether, it'd be interesting to hear.

distill it over a warm water bath with ice water on the condensing vessel

get creative with the set up. you can use glass bottles even. you basically need two vessels, one as the boiler and one for trapping the condensate. connect them together with appropriate tubing material

Sulfuric acid and ethanol. Distillation ain't for kids.

What are the byproducts of this reactions, what are their hazards, and if necessary(and by the quoted text appearently it is) how do you clean them out? If you are going to tell someone how to make something you should include this lest they possibly ingest an uncleaned product and harm themselves.
