How Marijuana made my life better
I've always lived life in the fast lane. At some point you have to stop going 140 on the highway before you run out of gas or cause a wreck. Thanks to Marijuana I think I'm ready to get back on the road. For years I've had problems sleeping. I can't put an exact date on when it all began. I just know that shit got pretty fast for me a few years back and I had to start working extra hard to get where I wanted to go in life and do the things I wanted to do. Skipping a night of sleep is nothing to the average person. Going to bed late a couple of hours every night for a week won't have that much of an affect on the average person as long as they can go back to their normal routine. Years of getting less than 20 hours, sometimes much less, sleep a week will have a tendency to fuck you up. Always needing to be in different places at the same time and having to much shit to do was very frustrating and stressful. I felt like I was living three lives at the same time. When my body finally said it was time to slow down, my mind didn't agree. This is where the problem actually begins. It begins with me wanting to go to sleep at 10 pm on Monday night and not going to sleep until 4 AM Wednesday, waking up at 9 am Wednesday, and going to sleep sometime Friday. I could never tell how long I would be up or how long I would be down. It is like a catch 22. The harder you try to sleep, the harder it is to sleep. You just can't will yourself to sleep. It is like a curse. You lie in bed for hours with your eyes shut just thinking. You're too tired to move or think but your brain just won't shut down. You'll figure out in a few months that it is completely useless so you spend the night hours doing god knows what while others sleep. Eventually you turn into something of a zombie. Just a hollow, soulless humanoid slowly being drained of its life and energy. When the time comes that you do crash, you crash hard. It can hit you anywhere; on the road, in a restaurant, at work, during a conversation, during a shower, etc. I became withdrawn and antisocial. Sleep to me was like a powerful, addictive drug that was very hard to get. You are always wanting it and if anyone ever stands between you and some sweet unconsciousness there would be hell to pay. I would always become violent if awakened from my treasured moments of unconsciousness. Kind of like when you try to take a piece of meat from starving dog. You don't know how long you'll stay under. Maybe 2 hours, maybe 20. Sometimes you hope you never wake up.
I decided it was time to take measures into my own hands. I thought, "This is my body and I'm the boss." Sleep schedules, diet, and exercise failed me. I began drinking. It didn't take more than 6 months before I was buying everclear every week and spiking everything I drank. Drinking myself to sleep worked well and I never got any hangovers. I knew it was becoming a problem and that it was only a temporary solution. I also knew that I couldn't go to sleep without something. That is when I started seeing the doctors. They gave me the works. If the pill is an anti-depressant, some kind of anxiety pill, sleeping pill, or anything to do with slowing you down and putting you out then I took it. One doctor who I was seeing once a week was giving me different prescriptions every single visit. This and a few scams I pulled off led to a very large stockpile prescription drugs. Ambiens were like my M&Ms. My favorite though would have to be temazepam. You see, the thing about most sleeping pills is that you can quickly build up a tolerance to it. I fell into the category of people that would end up taking more than the prescribed dosage and trip balls. Another thing about sleeping pills is that it makes it very hard for you to focus and remember things. Sometimes you forget how many pills you've taken or even what you're supposed to take. Waking up to empty pill and liquor bottles scattered everywhere is scary. Knowing you took far more than enough to kill is a sign that things aren't going well. I started having hallucinations while conscious. Most of the time I couldn't tell if I was really awake. I did a lot of really, really stupid things because of this. After several months of my prescription drug abuse I learned that it wasn't the answer I was looking for and stopped. Drugs and alcohol were not the answer to this nightmare. For months I stayed sober and carried this curse with me.
Then one day I got high. It was some hydro my friends talked me into smoking. The card they played was that they spent all that money on me, and it was so special, so I had to at least try it. We drove out to the country and walked in the woods and smoked it. It was a cool summer morning. I got so high I just laid in the grass for hours staring at the clouds and listening to them talk. I had never felt more relaxed and at peace. Afterward we went to my friends house and I crashed on his couch. I slept like a baby. For months I smoked every day, worked out vigorously, and ate well. My smoke time was a time to relax and not stress about anything. It was a time for me to get to know myself and think about things instead of worrying about things. It wasn't more than a few weeks of this before i started to develop a healthy sleep cycle. The great thing is that I don't need it to fall asleep like I would need a bottle of vodka or a handful of ambien. I always keep a joint around just in case though :). After several personal experiments I've found that I don't need to get high anymore to go to sleep. I still work out, eat well, and try to minimize stress. I still smoke pretty regularly because getting high is awesome and safe.
I wrote this for all the people out there wondering if this plant has any real use other than killing boredom. I also wrote this for people who are too stressed out, depressed, angry, or suffering from sleeping problems. It might just be the chill pill you've been looking for.

Basically, me too. Up until last year I routinely slept 3-4 hours a night. I would toss and fucking turn all night. They were reluctant to give me sleeping pills that worked (Shitty rozerem) so I turned to buying Xanax, got kind of addicted, blew a shit load of money on them and my grades/relationships suffered as i was a zombie everyday. finally i took about 24 mg one day and got caught abusing them, and switched to MJ.
ever since then i sleep at least 6 hrs and my grades are good enough to get me a full ride at several schools.
IM SO PAID

Yeah, pretty much the same thing happened to me, except the full ride. When I used to smoke everyday I had the best grades i've ever had and got a great sleep every night.

Re: How Marijuana made my life better
God, I'm tired of all the fucking pot smokers who act like marijuana is so great and how it "changed" them, and how it helps them so much with sleep, appetite, chillness etc. etc.
Smoke it, and chill. It's just a fucking plant. Who cares???

I agree, people who worship weed or other drugs are stupid. We've heard it all.
But I understand why these people do it. It's a reaction to an action, specifically a reaction to all the people who have ever told them how terrible smoking pot would make a persons life.
You are right, people should just chill. It's just life. But as long as people spread their crap about how terrible pot is, other people will spread their crap about how awesome it is. You should just smoke some and chill out. Who cares what all these people waste their life on? You going to waste your life managing theirs?

No, Siree. It just gets tiresome seeing three million threads a week about it.
Example :
"My Mom hates bud! I wanted to educate her on how harmless it was, blah blah blah"
Okay. We get it. This is a drug forum. You think anyone is going to disagree with your (not, you [Obbe] in particular. I mean you as in a general term) sentiment that you like bud? Probably very few will.
I just don't understand people (mostly kids) like this.

I don't understand why people (mostly soccer moms) are so concerned with protecting everyone else from life.
It gets tiresome seeing three specials a week on TV about how drugs are going to destroy my life.
But whatever. I just relax. I just sit back, smoke up and chill out. Fuck those stupid fuckers.

Re: How Marijuana made my life better
Holy fuck man, glad to see its helping other people too. My story is pretty much identical. Except I used to kinda hate weed, it gave me a fucked up high full of paranoia, I learned to control it and it pretty much turned my life around. Now Im getting to be pretty successful and productive thanks to ganja, and my new found 8 hours of sleep:p

Re: How Marijuana made my life better
I'm glad to see a lot of positive responses. I wrote this after doing some personal reflection. I was thinking about how much better my life is now vs back then and the things I take for granted. My prescription drug and alcohol abuse was no joke. I should have died so many times and I did a lot of very stupid shit. I'm not trying to say that weed is the best thing since BBQ ribs but it has helped me more than any doctor ever did. That day in the woods was like a switch had been flipped in my life. In fact, I know that if it were not for that day in the woods with my friends I might still be living the nightmare. That is to say if I would have made it this far. The first thing to break with sleep deprivation is your will. You can only go so long without giving a fuck about life before you lose it. I'm not saying I'm the type sobbing in a corner with gun to my head, but the thought of dying or getting hurt wouldn't stop me from doing something dangerous. Looking back at photos, emails, and videos of me from that time creep me out. Those drugs made me fucking nuts.
EDIT: Esp temazepam. Stay the fuck away from that shit. It has some crazy side affects.

Obviously it is if it helped him.
But I hate the idea that there's only two extremes for most people about weed. It's either you hate the fuck out of it and you want every little fucker out there selling/toking weed to go to jail forever (a little exaggerated I know), or you have the people who believe that it's some miracle plant sent by god and that you can smoke as much weed as you want and there will be ZERO negative effects.
Marijuana's a drug, just like licit ones. I don't see why it's so hard for people on either side of the spectrum to realize that it can be treated just like any other medicine. If you abuse it, you'll have negative side effects (less then a good chunk of other good drugs out there), but if used in moderation, it can be helpful. I do LOVE smoking weed though, but I realize that because of the way society views weed, it can have negative results on my life.
Alright I'm done.
