Why did you promise yourself you wouldn't drop acid again? Is it a permanent thing or more like "I promise not to drop acid again for six months"?

I like this thread.
Sadly i have only ever tripped on 1 hit of good quality acid, and while it was brilliant all i really got was a body high. This is 'cos i am very tall and therefore naturally weigh more..
Basically i cannot comment much more on this topic due to lack of knowledge on how you feel.
But still, good thread idea.

As far as I know, this happens to most people. It happens to me, and has happened to most people I know that have dropped acid and had that kind of "mentality". I don't know why it happens, it could just be because you kind of get back into your old cycle of doing things, like you're change, but nothing else has, and if you're under-aged you can't really change that much about your life, if you get what I'm saying. But I don't know, try dropping some again in a little while, and just next time, if you learn something, take it to heart, and actually make sure to do whatever you learned.

Well that's where you gotta make the choice yourself. Do you wanna risk dropping acid again and bringing on schizophrenia? I'm sure if it comes out, you'll regret, but that's your choice man. There are ways to get in touch with the dark chambers of your mind without using psychedelics (though it definitely helps).

same w/ me. my shroom epiphanies lasted under a week.

it was great though, i realized that everyone was the same, looking for acceptance and love, and i already had mine. the friends i was with while shrooming showed me such love and i felt like my whole life was going to be FINE.

now i'm back in a rut and i need to trip again, it's been like 2 months.

Yeah. The lessons last a lifetime, but not being in a broken-down rut inable to escape automatic habit... that lasts about a week or less.

It just changes the shape of that rut based on what you learned in that time you have... but that never goes away.

As for being permadosed, well... if you're insistent on avoiding psychedelics, you've got a much harder path ahead of you. Seriously vigorous and intensive meditation. Consuming a lot of tryptophan, and maybe even some catecholamine precursors - noradrenaline is heavily involved, and dopamine secondarily. Finding people who have done a lot of LSD and listening to some of their philosophies about the universe. Learning about science.

...but mostly, a lot of bitchin', hard, high-intensity meditation to try to force your mind out of that rut. Devote a month, sunrise to sundown, to figuring out how your worst enemy is just another you, or try to figure out what 7 billion individual human lives with their own hopes, dreams, worries, and silly fears are all doing at the same time on a tiny blue marble hurling through space at a phenomenal speed in a great big universe, or trying to decide whether you can prove that the universe even exists beyond a closed door or marvelling how wierd it is that our eyes and mouth are not on our stomachs - we'd bump our heads a little bit more but we'd trip a little bit less, and food would be right where it needs to go while you breathe through your nose up top - really is.

Then again, you might want to avoid trying to figure out whether you can prove the universe even exists beyond a closed door if you have a family history of schizophrenia, for all I know... but intensive meditation is probably still your best bet.

And tryptophan.

Dont chase the rainbow at the end of the tunnel.......You will never attain it permanently through acid alone.

Im not anti drug at all, and psychedelics have helped and changed me in ways i never thought possible. But if you over do it, especially with spiritual intent, your going to land yourself in trouble. Its all fun and games until you develop Depersonalization Disorder. Or become some acid freak, where you caint relate with the mainstream society.....which is something you NEED to be capable of if your going to succeed in life, or help free others who are caught in the ignorace of the media, government, ect. (which is the psychedelic blessing)

Like i said dude, dont chase the psychedelic afterglow. And once you open doors in your mind your not going to close them, and if you find yourself with too many opened doors at once, its easy to get lost :p

Yeah, you can have a predisposition to it due to heredity so whether or not you decide to continue using acid is going to be dependent upon what you want to get out of it and whether it's worth the risk. The mindset you described obviously won't last even if you take acid another time or 10 so you have to ask yourself if it's something that is either worth the risk, something that you can do without, or something that you can attain in another way. If it's some form of philosophical enlightenment that you're after, I would have to agree with JoePedo that it is possible and probably wiser to seek methods alternative to acid due to your risk of schizophrenia. In the end, though, the decision isall up to you and depends on the priorities in your life. Good luck.

There isn't much to fear if you know why you're not afraid.

I dont understand what all these doors being opened up are that you guys talk about, I did 2 hits of some quality acid one night, all night, and although It was my first time and I messed it up a bit by not being prepared, I didnt learn anything at all, all I had was this super intense all over body sensation that overpowered any other sensations, I had some hella cool visuals like peoples faces rippled on tv and it looked really funky, I remember at one point I was staring at my carpet with a picture of space on it and it turned such an amazingly dark and intsense black, but I didnt get the hallucinations people describe as like 'my computer melted' but I did get some interesting flashing colors popping in and out of my vision in like streaks and lines and I saw a fractal/web of color red. I never got any synthethesia people describe, but I had this constant flow of confused thought, I coudlnt understand the world around me, everything lost all meaning and sense and I only did normal human behaviors out of habit, the whole night consisted of me thinking about whether or not I should watch tv, go on the computer, lay on my bed or smoke weed in my closet, and I kept doing 1 of those things every 2 minutes, switching from one to the other all night just constantly thinking about how nothing made sense and that I didnt even know why I was smoking weed. I remember I tried to read a myspace message and I couldnt follow it, I kept having to start from the beginning because either my brain wouldnt stop reading a word wrong like favor always came out as flavor in my thought process, or I would just forget. I know I did it all wrong with a bad setting but I was just in such a discontent, and confused mood the whole time, I just wanted to fall asleep and get it over with. I couldnt achieve any of this meditation. I was thinking so intensely about my own confusion.

I didnt do acid to get fucked up, I wanted introspection, but all I could think about was how confused I was, I was so grossly disorganized and discontent feeling. I eventually took 2 pills of lunesta and passed out awaking several hours later. It was definitly a bad trip due to bad set and setting but it certainly wasnt as hellish as people describe bad trips to be, I was freaked out and running around naked, but I was really discontent and confused about the meaning of my bong and flashlight and whatnot. I smoked a lot of weed out of habit but couldnt figure out why I was smoking it or why I felt the urge too, cause the acid overpowered the feeling of being high.

It was just wierd but I want to do it again sometime soon, just in a better set and setting. I had a fight with my friend earlier that day too =/ I just didnt get any of these profound realizations or epiphanies or wierd acid perceptions that people talk about, I was just really really confused and too caught up in that. I remember how in the beginning I was laughing hysterically but I stopped that and held it all in because I didnt want to wake up anyone in my house, that might have worsened my mood/sense of comfort =/

Nice post JoePedo... imo if you are very mindful of your thoughts and recognize that you are at risk of schizophrenia, you can reign in your thoughts and recognize when/if they stop making much sense. Gradually your mind will learn which thought patterns are "retarded" and nonsensical and will stop the nonsense. This was how I overcame my "permadose"(awesome word lol). I'm sure this varies in effectiveness case by case though.

Atomic, you need to do MOAR LSD. And smoke DMT at peak. If that doesn't blow your mind, then I believe you to be slightly retarded. Sorry.

On the topic of mental illness.

Yes, there's a higher chance that you will bring something out through the use of psychedelics if what they bring out is present in a family member.

HOWEVER,

That's not to say that you actually WILL become mentally ill. You have to look at the way people are before the mental illness arises to be able to judge for yourself whether or not you have a good possibility of having an onset of mental illness. Are you a fairly happy person? Comfortable with yourself and others? Are you okay in social situations? If you answered yes to all of these things, then I don't think one trip will really affect your mental stability a whole lot.

To put things in perspective, we'll take a famous case of schizophrenia/psychosis - Syd Barrett. Everyone knew he was an odd character before the drug use, and he was one that really shouldn't have been doing ANY drugs whatsoever because he was already so mentally unstable that it was fairly obvious that doing drugs would lead to what happened to him (he became a total recluse for many years). Does this sound familiar to you? If so, then I'd stay away from drugs altogether.

Also, how old are you? The peak years of an onset of schizophrenia is late adolescence to early adulthood, so if you're past that then the chances of you getting it (technically...I mean, if you're going to get it then you're going to get it) go down.

All it takes is knowing yourself.

it's all you

be who? be who?

this. [nice rhyme Moonius btw] acid doesn't fundamentally change who you are as a person, be who you've always been, just know be that plus what you learned from your experience.
