Default What have you gained from S&A?

As in this forum. What have you gained from it? Learnt any valuable lessons? Any posters who gave you priceless information?

For me, this forum has been pretty helpful. When I got here I was as clueless as they come. Totse is harsh and puts things into perspective. As for people who taught me valuable lessons:

im/perfect circle: Best advice giver ever and coolest totse member in history. I remember when I was an ugly pot smoking, high school drop out nerd and he told me if I follow his step by step guide I'll get the popular hot chick. And it worked.
Glitterpunk: Always willing to tell you the cold hard truth, but at the same time it was always right.
Euda: Despite being captain obvious, there's always been more to his posts that I was just missing.
MrMojoRisin: Gave really good first hand advice at how to get girls.
Garfunkal: Took way too many pills, but always seemed to have the right answers and was always up for ripping the shit through carbonb.
Demoiselle: Her advice always seemed to hold more value than 99% of totse.
And lastly...Rabbitweed and Shiva. Rabbitweed's a cool dude who tells it like it is, and shiva was a girl I met on totse and was friends with for a couple years.

This place is full of gems, you just need to wade through the cesspool that is totse to find them.

What has S&A taught you?

I AM NOT A GIRL.
Default Re: What have you gained from S&A?

I think the only thing that's changed is that after reading posts made by girls, I'm kind of better at looking through their confident, attractive exterior and seeing how imperfect they are deep down.

It's significantly increased my confidence.

Well, my first couple years in high school I was the guy who thought girls actually cared about one's personality and wouldn't care how I looked. Then I found S&A and realized that it's just so much more important to look good. (Having a good personality definitely helps, but looks are what gets you sex).

Honestly, this board has been great because I simply make sure I do the exact opposite of whatever anyone here says, and things always work out.
The only person here who I could really identify with here was Nihilist, but I never see him post here anymore.

I <3 you arquin!

S&A has shown me how to understand people and why they do the fucked up, ridiculous things they do in relationships. At this point, I don't think I can really encounter anything that will truly shock me. So S&A has desensitized and demoralized me, basically.

My impression of you is that you're one of those people who lack a certain quality, the deficit of which is as much a blessing as a curse. Life isn't intrinsically fair, forgiving, or any of the ideals we innocently imagine it to have when we're children. Most children cast off that unquestioned faith in the goodness of the world like a broken pair of roller scates, and replace it with more sceptical, cynical expectations. And why shouldn't they, it makes life less painful, you can only be betrayed by something you trust after all. And so the harshness of the world seeps into their adult personality, we unconsciously accept it as the right thing to do, but just look at how we celebrate the innocence of children and encourage them to play and laugh as much as possible before they "have to grow up"...

[deleted for lack of relevance]

....The reason I've said all of this, is because when I read through this thread a few days ago, what hit me like a right hook to the jaw was that was like having front row seats to someone embarking on that rejection of idealism. How you choose to handle this situation, and I hate being melodramatic so believe me that I mean this sincerely, could influence the rest of your life.

"So I tried, countless times. Always failing. She'd always just have to say small things to get me back into my 'always have hope' type attitude."

Yes, this is just one situation, but it's representative of what we all go through, only most of us didn't keep trying countless times, we gave up a lot sooner. If you've kept that nature in face of god knows how much shit it's caused you in your past, it's obviously something deeply enmeshed in your personality. Very few things could unlodge that, and the utter vulernability that's inseparable from overwhelming love for a girl is one of those things:

And so it begins. There are many ways your mind could have wrapped up the alienation of that part of you which is resulting in so much pain (the fact that it can also result in just as exquisite happiness must be ignored). The one your mind chose was to view that part as fake, and the "adult" part as real.

Nobody would blame you for doing that. No reason you should give a shit that in some abstract sense it might be tragic, or any other nonsense. Cut off that part of you that's "fake" and life will be less painful, that's a perfectly justifiable choice. Furthermore your psych could be totally right about such an intense inner conflict triggering your mental instability, I'd be surprised if not.

But I can't see it happening and not at least try and warn you that if you do so, you might lose something very precious, and lose it forever.

What you can't see right now, and probably cannot believe, is that there is a real future that you can make happen where what you dream about now will be the reality. Explaining why I am saying that with complete certainty would probably take ten times as much writing as I've done here, and frankly I highly doubt words can make you really believe it at this point. But I'll tell you something, dreams don't become reality for most people by chance, people make them happen. It doesn't necessarily require faith, all it needs is conviction and dedication.

Considering what I've said here, my earlier use of words was unfortunate. When I said you need to grow up, I meant that right now you have more of that child-like nature than adult nature for lack of a better word. You're in a crisis right now where you have to make a choice. But crisis isn't a bad word. I find it illuminating that in the chinese written language, where characters are ideograms that can incorporate symbols to create meaning, the ideogram for crisis contains the one for opportunity.

The opportunity might not be obvious, but it's there: for most people, child-like nature and adult nature are exclusive qualities like night and day, we automatically lose one to gain the other. But you have a choice, it's a gift you've earned from the trouble that's led up to it. You don't have to get rid of your child-like nature. You have the possibility, it you choose, to try and develop that adult nature around a core of that idealism, I wish there was a better word for it but fuck it. She's an exception girl, right? Manage to become an exceptionally individuated man and you'll deserve her at least as much as the guys she's been favoring instead of you. What's happened so far can't be a rejection of who you are if you haven't finished becoming who you have the potential to be, it's only been a rejection of your incomplete self.

Please at least think about what I've said, whatever the more complex circumstances of your life, the fact is that at 18 you have a totally obscured perspective on everything, and a distorted view of how they can or will turn out. You have more to gain than you probably are letting yourself believe, and the only thing you have to lose by taking a leap of faith is an even worse disappointment - but if you take my word for only one single thing, believe me that it's worse to not take a chance to avoid failure than it is to try and still fail.
There was a shit load of help before this and after this that I can't find. A while later he became a mod, went crazy, send a last few emails then deleted his email/totse accounts and has been gone ever since. Any way, enough of a tangent.

Has any one here had a totse mentor? (for lack of a better word)

'Mojo has always given me really great advice and 'ketch with his off-beat parenting practices always amuses me, and has prompted me to think about my future offspring and how I will raise them.

Theres been a few others, but I'm posting from my cellphone, so I wont name off everyone, they know who they are.

This forum has show me MANY fucked up situations and has desensitized me to how fucked up people can become when emotions get involved.

I've learned that the decent guys are far more decent than I had ever permitted myself to believe, and that the scummy ones are far more depraved and awful than I had dared imagine.

And that men who can't get girls turn their feelings of inadequacy into misogyny.

That is certainly one reason I love S&A, and all of totse. You get complete honesty from almost all members. Whether the advice is telling you that you're worthless and that you need to kill yourself or saying you look like a mammoth, get a haircut.

Regardless of what kind of person you are on the outside, the people here aren't afraid to tell you what they think about you and your situations. That is very rare to find in a world without anonymity.

I approve of this thread so I'm going to sticky it for a bit.

You'd be hard pressed to name an S&A regular who hasn't enriched my life in some way, if only by making me laugh.

You'd also be hard pressed to name an S&A regular who hasn't made me want to punch them at times either.

Single most important gift I have received here is the ability to listen to people whose opinions IRL I would ignore...teenagers, americans, women.

IRL I have a problem with taking the opinions of the average 17 year old seriously .."go away and get some life experience and then I might listen to what you have to say, sonny".

Here however I have learnt that wisdom can even sometimes be found in the opinion of a 17 year old female ameritard.

OK, its rare but it happens.

Awwww. Cute thread is cute.

A lot of time I'll go to make a thread here, read everything I just wrote and realize how stupid I was being. Just typing out your problem gives you a chance to analyze it.

And even when I actually do post a problem, I always get a lot of good feedback. At the very least, someone puts a smile on my face and takes my mind off the issue briefly.

Yeah I was going to say that. Sometimes I'll start writing a new thread and by the time I get to the end I'll have already figured out the problem but usually I post it anyway because It's good to hear the people that can relate and gain some outsiders insight.

I've really enjoyed this forum. It's taught me a lot about people and relationships in general, especially how much people hide about themselves in daily life. Also how much people hide things from themselves. This forum is an interesting sort of social experiment for me, seeing the different viewpoints and types of advice.

This really is a hilarious place that I visit more than anything just to take in the odd dynamic and escape for a little while. A lot of the posts on here are just stupid shit to laugh at, but there's been a lot of good advice that's helped me in my own life. I've become so desensitized from my time reading this forum that it's become sort of an addiction. It's difficult/almost impossible to find people in real life who will say what they actually think; here's it's normal, even if the advice is as meme'd as 'stick it in her pooper' or 'get dome (head)' or 'don't poison her llama.' I have yet to find this kind of mix anywhere else.

I try to give back by posting helpful advice every so often. I've learned a lot here, and I sure as fuck benefited from the advice of other posters, so if anyone benefits from what I've posted then that's great. This is a community, after all.

And Sick_Boy, where did you go off to for so long?

Actually, she was quite an awesome chick. Used to give killer advice, but pissed me off hardcore because despite being very intelligent she absolutely 100% refused to use any capital letters in her post. Is she still around?

And share your lesson dude. Unless it's something kinky.

She's gone from totse. She and I quit around the same time, but I came back after over a yearlong absence. I still talk to her, but it's been infrequent this semester. I was talking to her during Euda's time dating her. I can imagine the lesson you learned, Euda. I told her about this thread just now, so at least she knows it's here.

I've learned to better analyze my problems. I believe I once asked if I should nail my psychotic bitch of an ex. You all said no (save for the poon-hounds). I ignored, and thus started quite a downward spiral in my life. Sometimes the advice given here is worth listening to...

I've also figured out how narcissistic i can be. I sometimes have the urge to bring up things in my life to overshadow some people's complaining in threads. I generally don't, because I realize how much of a cunt that would make me.

I love S&A. It shows me the spectrum of human interaction.

The lesson doesn't much matter. It involves values, acceptance, communication, and one of the few regrets that I have in my life; if I could communicate it in an effective manner, I would. Every so often, I still talk to lauren2479. I'm sure that we would talk more, but we're both busy people at the moment.

Now that I think about it, S&A really is pretty incredible. Where else can you learn the things you've learned here? Thanks to this place I know stuff at my age that I could have only found out otherwise with years of experience. This is so cool :)

Before the regs opened in july, I would lurk just to see the myriad of personalities on S&A. Finally got the chance to contribute, but I still enjoy sitting back and watching personalities clash over legitimate issues, and that every guy on totse wants to fuck silverfuck.

Also, I met my best friend, GnosisX, here.

Uhhh, that's a bit excessive, but if you think that proves it, yeah go for it.

Haha, a photo with your username + &t in it would prove it I guess, or prove you know that person. I'm confused.

I always associate 'incredibly smart female' with 'incredibly ugly deceitfulness'. Should probably stop that eh?

You'd usually be right. But I was an ugly kid so I developed a personality and smarts as a coping mechanism. It was just a happy coincidence that I ended up not being incredibly ugly and deceitful.

It's just nice to know that being smart and good-looking are two traits that a girl can have at once. At least there are some of them out there. Just one more thing that S&A have given me.

I wouldn't mind an in depth understanding of those things, but the girls down here are so.....Texas. All of those stereotypes you see in the movies, well, for the most part are pretty accurate. Some common sense and reasoning skills are really all that is required for me.

Hard decisions for them include what top goes with those jeans, whether their shoes match their purse, and if daddy is going to get me a new car.

GnosisX's girl is actually quite smart, going for a nursing degree, and would actually know what what to do with it.

LOL you think you have it tough?

Here in Norfolk it would a 16 year old in shiny jogging trousers, half way down her arse, tramp stamp and cheap multi pack knickers on show....while she pushes her toddler around Super Saver.

And just looking at her you just know she's family...ie from the same village.

You know what I love about totse? The fact that you can come back from a 2 year hiatus and know immediately who the girls are by the unabashed adoration they receive.

Ryko "NO MAN!! She has like a really great personality and stuff, and she makes good posts!!!"

You guys keep telling yourself that's why you respond to every little thing she says. There's a lot of easier ways to get your dick wet then fawning over some girl you'll never meet.

Also that video is really fucking disconcerting.

Uhhh... personally, I think what I have learned here is not so much in the advice people give, but conclusions that can be drawn by observing the course of (some) threads. Not meaning to take anything away from the efforts that people make, but a lot of the advice is either blindingly obvious (I know, sometimes that's necessary) or a ctrl+c, ctrl+v from some DeAngelo article. Some of the stuff that comes from personal experience is genuinely helpful though... What I like most about S&A is the fact that it's pretty much anonymous, but there is still kind of a sense of community. Also, like some other people have said, there are things you can learn here that might otherwise take years to figure out IRL. That's it for now.

Lulz, mostly. I browse through here all the time looking at people who've fucked themselves over in relationships, or who don't have the confidence to do something. I've been direct with my romantic relationships thus far, so most of this is foreign to me.

Gratitude that I'm actually in the kind of relationship most of you cynics claim is impossible is the most valuable thing S&A has given me though.

There was a shit load of help before this and after this that I can't find. A while later he became a mod, went crazy, send a last few emails then deleted his email/totse accounts and has been gone ever since. Any way, enough of a tangent.

Has any one here had a totse mentor? (for lack of a better word)

Do you have the post of yours that imperfect circle was replying to? This really seems to apply to me right now.

It's on the first page, look for a huge block of text.

Thing is, it wasn't only one post, it was on going advice. There are 3 posters here that as time goes on I realize offer extremely good advice as well.

Mad lolz. Perspective on relationships outside of my own, and also on basic human nature. (Sometimes hilarious/terrifying) insight into underlying thought processes people experience during different relationship dynamics. Reinforcement/reaffirmation of my own values.

It doesnt say anything about the rest of the world if i was talking about the rest of the world i would of said "totse and the rest of the world" you cant compare an internet forum where the average age of the user is 12 and the I.Q level isnt far behind to the world.

According to the preview of the Totse Census '08, the median age of a totsean is 19: http://www.totse.com/community/showt...6#post10753246

Also, an average Totsean is interested in information and learning - that's what Totse is all about, and otherwise this "totsean" would quickly lose interest.

Cmon man, you know it and i know it the population of serious posters and the "i was one sperm away from being crumpled into a tissue and flushed away to my watery grave" is ridiculous, that census can say whatever it wants but you would be a fool to trust everything you read, to say an average Totsean is interested in information and learning is a god damn dirty lie, seriously look at the front page with such educational articles such as "how to fuck up a mail box" and "how to play fisties" and lets not forget the all inspiring "strange ways to smoke weed" and if thats not enough take a trip to our professors at the Bad Ideas section...

Face it man i love this place as much as the next but to doubt that 90% of the people here a borderline retarded is just ignorant.

Well, I don't think we'll have a decent argument on this, since it's all purely subjective.

Well, from my experience here, a lot of totseans try to consider different viewpoints and make a decision for themselves - and not just try to "fit in" into the crowd. Very often people in real life accept things without questioning them, and if they have non-conventional thoughts on a subject, very often they wouldn't talk about it and share it.

Sure, there is a lot of trolling around, but if you filter that out, even in bad ideas, you get interesting information, ideas, and viewpoints.

Smarter or not, this place has a high concentration of interesting people.

But, as I said, it's all subjective.

All i asked for was you own personal opinion but you the kind of person that will never give their own opinion without trying to mask it in a sea of bullshit to make it seem like they are on the outside looking in why cant you just say "no you wrong the majority is intelligent and do make decent posts" or simply just agree with me... but no instead you never once say your own personal feeling towards the subject its always "in my experience" some kind of 3rd persons point of view, and the one time you do the word "I" your totally wrong there is nothing subjective about it you look at the comparison of intellectual posts compared to "stupid" posts how is that subjective ?

but you know considering its all subjective, my post in this forum on this website is just subjective so take no notice.

What have you gained from it?

Endless amusement and discussion regarding things both inane and substantive. I also gained a place where I could share my struggles with maturing emotionally and sexually and garner advice and guidance along the way.

Learnt any valuable lessons?

Be careful who you take advice from.

Any posters who gave you priceless information?

Not going to name posters, but many folks on here taught me exactly how NOT to have a good life. Thanks to them, I've found a wonderful life. I've learned to never cheat, to not lie, to not manipulate, to not hide from mistakes, to not herald sex as the miracle cure for all of life's problems, to not let fear get the best of me, to not let past hurts rule my present actions, to not get women drunk to make them easy, and so on. So, SnA, thank you for showing me the more common pitfalls of life.

As to those who encouraged me to do right, thank you Vampire Archimiel, imperfect circle, Infrared (underneath your junky exterior beats a heart of true compassion, I just hope you live long enough to see yourself as the good man I see in ya...if you read this Tom, much love my brother), Euda, jackketch
