| Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Please try to keep your conversations "theoretical" in nature, since this is an open conference. |

What the fuck is everyone's problem about this drug? All I hear about is "microscopic organisms crossing the cell membrane and going directly into the bloodstream", yet DMSO is sold on countless sites by reputable supplement companies, has had clinical trials in which it was found to be useful against certain types of illnesses and has one reported death, a woman who died of an allergic reaction. Not to mention the countless people who have been using DMSO for YEARS and swear by it for analgesic purposes.
I can't find one scrap of evidence that DMSO transports harmful bacteria across cell membranes, in fact, I see just the opposite.
"DMSO exerts a marked inhibitory effect on a wide range of bacteria and fungi including at least one parasite, at concentrations of 30 to 50%."
Basch, H., and Gadebusch, H.H. In vitro antimicrobial activity of dimethyl sulfoxide. Appl. Microbiol. 16: 1953-1954 (1968).
"During its heyday, black market DMSO could be purchased in health food stores, military surplus stores, hardware stores, at swap meet booths, or even from vendors working out of the trunks of their cars parked along highways. Very often black market DMSO is industrial grade, not medical grade. A problem with industrial grade DMSO is that companies bottling the substance as an industrial solvent use the same equipment to bottle other substances. Residual toxic materials can contaminate industrial grade DMSO and may be taken into the body by DMSO's action as a "chemical hypodermic."
Case in point, DON'T USE INDUSTRIAL GRADE DMSO.
Now I'm not saying that DMSO can't carry in unwanted substances, but if you use common sense and don't directly mix DMSO with non-pure solutions, I see no reason why this can't be used safely.

Re: Dmso
Dudeman, we all know that molecules carry bacteria. The bakterias use molecules like rollerblades. the DMSO is like a phantom-rollerblade-apparatus that allows it to travel through matter. Duh!

Re: Dmso
I totally agree agree, bacteria are way to big at 1-2um avg. to be pulled across by DMSO, it will only help increase permeability of chemicals [we're talking nm scale now, that's 10^3 times smaller] that it can dissolve, I don't know who was saying that it will pull micro-organisms into your blood but that's totally wrong. Still like you said you're going to want to watch out about introducing nasty chemicals into your body, like I know DMSO will dissolve a bunch of plastics, and you wouldn't want that getting into you. Also if you're using street drugs to prepare DMSO solutions, there is a [likely very very low] possibility that they could be cut with something that would interact poorly.
