I've just picked up this nice and dry weed; it looks like like weed, it smells like weed, it tastes like weed. The only thing is that when you smoke it the ash becomes hard and very dark gray. Also, when you pinch the ash together it has a charcoal like quality. In all the years that I've been smoking I've never seen anything like this before.

It still gets me stoned and doesn't have a harsh taste or make me cough any more than usual. Apart from the aforementioned, it is just like smoking regular weed...

So, has anyone else ever encountered anything like this before and do you think it's dangerous to smoke?

Basically, it's a very dry, lightish green bud. There's seemingly nothing suspicious mixed in with the bud, unless it's microscopic or a clear liquid that was applied to the bud before it was dried out.

The ash is hard and black, and often requires that you re-light the spliff to keep it going.

I've heard people I know saying it could be weed that was specifically grown to make hash, or that it could have crushed glass mixed in; however, there's no sign of this in either the way it looks or the way it tastes.

If everything else is normal, I would guess that something was left in the weed. However, I have heard this usually has an effect on the high and how the weed burns.

How do your lungs feel from this weed? I don't mean directly after smoking, I mean once you feel the need to smoke some more are you feeling a little more pressure on the lungs then you usually do? If so, it might be a good idea to smoke some other weed.

I've had weed that ashes up on the end of a spliff like that. Like if you let it sit it goes out rather quick and you have a little hard kind of 'ash tent' on the end of the spliff. Don't know exactly what causes it because I've had it happen with both wet and dry weed.

Perhaps its just good weed and the crystals are kind of caramelizing into the ash as it loses heat. I don't know. Nothing to worry about though. No in my opinion anyways.

when you grow weed you use chemicals to make it flower more (just like people do with their gardens), and these chemicals are supposed to be "flushed" out by feeding them water in their last days...so my guess is that the person growing didnt flush his plant(s) properly.
also, when shit is grown hydroponically rather than with soil, the chemicals that the grower feeds the plant with are harder to flush out...

Either tampered (Sprayed) to "cut" it and make it heavier, smellier or stronger or it the grower didn't flush properly during flowering.

Iv seen that hard ash stuff a lot and its always been tampered, I have smoked that stuff a few times and had ash cherries on the end almost 2 inches long, problem is if you try to tap it off on something it literally breaks the burning cherry out the end. We had a couple of oz of the stuff and it was so bad we were carrying nail scissors around so we could cut the ash when it got to much. Best advice if you have quite a bit is put it in some water give it a good swirl then filter it and re-cure it effectively washing the bad stuff off and leaving the good stuff behind. Smoking tampered weed really fucks your lungs up, iv only just recovered from smoking it this summer and it got really bad September/October time after I developed a prolonged cough choking up green, black and white stuff.

Also in future if your suspicious of you weed and think it might be tampered then don't buy it or don't buy off that dealer again till you know they have good stuff, Boycott this shit or people will keep producing it.

You may just have dank weed and it's burns longer than your use to....As far as the "compact charcoal ash" i think its just leftover nug covered in resin that you are mushing ash into...I've had ash i was able to press to form a grey/black mass that was resmokable...Who knows? picture if u can...

My guess is just a characteristic of that particular weed is that it has a dense structure, or it's just a little more moist. It doesn't burn all the way through, thats what the black stuff is, just halfway burned weed. Weed that has all of it's energy spent will be very light colored ash.

I suspect it's either been sprayed with something to add weight, or it hasn't been 'flushed' properly (as some of you suggested).

Again, I don't have a decent enough camera to take pictures, but I doubt that'd actually help much. You really need to see/smell/taste/smoke it in person, so, unless you're willing to come to Canterbury, UK, I doubt that'll happen. You never know.

Sprayed weed is fucking terrible and what you have sound similar to the sprayed shit we get here. I see lots of stupid high schoolers buying/smoking this shit all the time and they all think its great cuz it burns so long, but it generally has no visible crystals and smells sorta like bleach. Watch out for this shit because you never know what they sprayed it with, usually its harmless (unless you count the added weight) but there's always some dick who uses the first spray bottle he can find under the sink.

However, if the plants weren't flushed, especially if the grower had a hydro setup, you're likely smoking some nutrients/chemicals that you really should be avoiding. A friend in recently got a quarter of the exact stuff you mentioned. He literally had to cut the ash off the end of the joint with scissors.

The bud was light, smelled good, did not have any glass/silica particles in it and got him pretty stoned. I saw it round his place not too long ago, and it confused the hell out of me. I've been around a lot of sprayed bud in the past, and I can't say I've seen anything like it.

Yea, in my area I haven't had coated shit since about August, it's all been quite nice, lovely homegrown which has been cured well. It's bangin'.

Occasionally you get some damp stuff which has been rushed a bit, but at least it's not coated or underweight.

But then again for some reason my town does get sooooo much better weed than all the surrounding towns, and I don't know why.

I know exactly what this is. This has been a major problem in the UK along with grit weeds (weed laced with industrial etching agent ie. ground up glass), and grease weed.

Ok what you have here is a classical example of the plant not being flushed of all the feeds and fertilizers etc. The last week of growing the plant should just be given water and none of the other shit. Failure to do so results in the typical hard ash.
Do not smoke it, its not worth it. It mashes up your lungs and the chemicals have many psychosomatic effects.
