It's my birthday today (17) and my parents took me out to dinner (Indian--delish), and on the ride home we were talking about a bunch of stuff when out of the blue my mom says, "So, not that you would know anything about this, but apparently there's this new natural plant thats all the rage with kids today. It's like, a hallucinogen...It's called...sylvia, I think. It's REALLY bad for you, it causes flashbacks like LSD and kills a lot of brain cells and permanent brain damage. I just saw a report on TV about it today. I know you're smarter than to do something like that, I just wanted to warn you about the stuff out there...God knows what these kids are into..."

I went up into my room and laughed for about 78332 hours straight. Now it's really hard to bite my tongue and not go up and educate her, remind her of the 1930s "marihuana" bullshit, and explain to her that it's not a recreational drug at all, there are no known side effects, it DOESN'T cause flashbacks, it's been in use for thousands of years, imo, there's nothing wrong with using it and it's only been a positive, enlightening experience for me. What should I do? Considering I have a few grams sitting in my closet, there's a SMALL chance I'll get caught, and I don't want her to think that I'm using the equivalent of meth, but if I go up and rattle off a bunch of facts about it, it's a dead giveaway that I've used it before. Suggestions?

They were comparing it to acid and whatnot--I think it and Doctor Phil are connected. Anyway, all I saw was the preview, during which one of the doctors smoked a bowl of salvia, and his reaction was hilarious. He was sitting in a chair, and his pupils are fucking huge, his eyeballs bugging, and he looks at the camera and goes "I'm really high!"

I laughed for literally ten minutes straight.

When I first ordered salvia my mom opened the envelope that it came in (I expected for it to come in a week, it came in 2 days). Anyway she came and woke me up and told me my incense had come in the mail. I thought I was in the clear since incense was what I was going to tell her it was anyway. So I went downstairs to get it and my younger sister saw it on the table. She gave me a look like I was insane, and then proceeded to tell my mom that a kid she knew told her that salvia makes you hallucinate and go insane. So my mom looked it up and of course ignored all the factual sites and just looked at all the fear-mongering news reports.

This triggered a shit storm that resulted in having my car taken away for a month, and a lot more distrust from my parents. At least I was able to fish my salvia out of the garbage once it was thrown away. :D

Not worth trying to persuade your parents against "the horrors of drugs" if they have been against them their whole life.
