Mushroom grow kits
Anyone got a website that sells legit, easy to use kits where the site will ship to the US?

Re: Mushroom grow kits
Dont waste your money. Most of those sites charge you like a $100 for a rubbermaid container and a bunch of cheap bullshit. You could build everything you needed for under $30 at the hardware store. Not to mention that would cover a fancy setup. Save your money bud.

Re: Mushroom grow kits
Just buy spores. The rest is pretty simple to put together.

I got a pressure cooker for $20 brand new. I'd still suggest setting shit up yourself and growing off cakes before buying a kit. Casings are better [and I don't actually see what a pressure cooker has to do with this, I used a regular pot to sterilize and went with casings my first time] but that doesn't really mean shit. Casings or cakes its all about your terrarium when it comes to fruiting.

All you need is vermiculite, brown rice flower, and some jars to get started. Read up on the PF-Tek and take a trip to wal-mart.

Re: Mushroom grow kits
Wow, that guy pulled in a decent amount out of those bags. Most people I've seen use them haven't had as good results. Maybe they wouldn't be too bad for trying to get yourself an ounce every once in a while. Maybe I should give them a try.

You should, I gave that method a try on one of my first mushroom grows. Among my eight bags and 5-6 flushes, I harvested ~1.5kg (wet). I probably could have gone another 1-2 flushes, but to be honest, I got sick of picking mushrooms non stop. That was still alot of $$$ and only with eight bags. While double tub casings are my new favorate, those bags are GREAT for beginners.

This This This. I bought a kit once and got sold a bunch of overpriced shit. Could have made everything myself much cheaper and even could have made it more durable. The spore prints are crucial, the rest you should just build yourself unless you can afford it.
For example, here is a cheap/ghetto incubator that can be built out of easily obtainable items and has worked well for me in the past.

Re: Mushroom grow kits
There's also another simple way to make an incubator that involves two rubbermaid containers and a fully submergible fish tank heater. Basically you attach your heater to the bottom of one container, then you place the second container inside the first container. Ensure that when the containers are stacked inside one another that there is a space between the two containers large enough to fit the heater, you don't want the containers touching the heater. If there isn't enough space just place something inside the bottom container [on each side so its nice and stable/even] so the top one rests above the heater, no big deal. Now just pour some water in between the containers and run your heater. Seal up the top container with your jars in it and you're good.
Just make sure you maintain your water level! You can also mix some hydrogen peroxide to the water so you can just keeping topping it up and not have to change it until your next set of jars.
Edit - You must also secure the top container to the bottom one otherwise when you add the water the top one will obviously start floating. The weight of the jars can help this, but just secure them together to save the hassle. A couple holes in the handles and a few zip ties does the trick.
