Shroom growbags
wanted to grow but I have a few questions about thses baggies.
-Do they sprout shrooms multiple times (if so is it forever or is there a limit to how many times they will sprout?)
-How much shrooms DO YOU THINK will grow fully in 1 week?
-Im looking for bulk growing, (by bulk i mean just 1 ounce) are these the easiest way to go?
Thanks totse, shroomery community is difficult to follow

Re: Shroom growbags
I've never used a grow bag but I would figure you could pull in a dry ounce if all goes well. But then again all could go well and you could get way less. As for them growing forever, no. Mushrooms tend to get about 4 full flushes, each flush being weaker than the last. And it's going to take more than a week. Like I said I haven't used bags so I'm not 100% familiar with the process but I would assume it goes; inoculation, mycelium, mushrooms like any other process. In which case you're looking at 1-2 weeks for full mycelium growth and another 1-2 weeks for first mushrooms. Unless the bags work differently some how.
I would suggest you do a simple PF-Tek. Way btter than bags, way more cost effective, way more mushrooms.

Re: Shroom growbags
im gonna look into the PF-Tek. My main goal is to just get this started up ASAP, right now to pull in an ounce a week, then expand.

Re: Shroom growbags
Well bags won't work for that. I mean, they could but you'd be wasting a shitload of money. A PF-Tek uses simple materials [vermiculite/brown rice flower/spores] and doesn't even require casing if you choose. What this means is you can place the mycelium cakes right into your terrarium rather than 'casing' them [breaking them up and layering them in substrate] allowing you to grow with minimal effort. Of course casings are always better, but you have the option.
The only thing you need for a PF-Tek really [or any other regular method] is a trrarium. A terrarium can be as little as a small sealable container big enough for one mycelium cake with some wet perlite in the bottom, or it can be something mush bigger and more automated.
If you want to grow regularly invest in a rubbermaid container and a humidifier. No mess, no fuss. You just pop in your cakes or casing, turn on your humidifier and wait. Perlite works too, but of course it can be a little more messy.
Oh, and once you get used to the process and familiarize yourself with spore printing its almost free to produce shrooms [vermiculite and brown rice flower are pretty cheap and they will become your only costs if you stick to the basic PF-Tek].

Re: Shroom growbags
okay that pretty much says bags are useless.
a quick question about sterilization though.
i dont have access to a preasure cooker, would simply boiling the jars in a normal pot for 90 minutes be good? This however sounds sketchy because the water would evaporate so would adding previously boiled water to the mix every so often an idea worth an attempt? Or are there possibly other ways of obtaining sterilization.
This was my original dilema, and why I considered bags in the first place.

Step 8:
Now the culture jars need to be sterilized. Place the jars in a large kitchen pot and add water so that water comes half way up the side of the jars. Bring the water to a slow boil and place the lid on the pot. From the time the water starts to boil, the jars need 1 hour to be sterilized. Water should not be bubbling and splashing all over the place. The jars should not be floating around in the water. The substrate in the culture jars has the right amount of water in it already. You do not want water leaking into the jars and changing the ratio. The jars should not sit flat on the bottom of the pan. Too much heat can transfer directly to the jars and cause a loss of moisture. You can place a wash cloth inside the pan and set the jars directly on the wash cloth to help prevent too much heat from transferring to the jars.
90% of first time growers fail because they do not follow the guide exactly.
You can find videos on google (take some notes) if you don't want to read.

Re: Shroom growbags
I used a regular pot my first time and got zero contaminated jars out of ten. I pressure cooked my second time and got one contaminated out of ten. Of course this was in fact coincidence, pressure cooking IS the most effective method of sterilization [I probably exposed the contaminated jar to something myself].
Boiling will still work, but pressure cooking is best. And a pressure cooker can be cheap. I think I got mine for $19.99 CAD, so if you have the funds invest in one.
If you do use a regular boiling method use more jars just in case. You'd rather be safe than sorry, and if all are good you simply end up with more mushrooms [assuming you have room to fruit all of them].
And if you wanna get started ASAP order your spores [syringes] now. Get B+.
