Default A question about shrooms

So my friend (yes, actually a friend) has been hunting for mushrooms in the pacific northwest, and he has eaten them about 5 times in the past 3 weeks. He showed me one of the places where he got them, and I don't know much of anything about shrooms, but he is sure that they are psilocybin shrooms. So what are the chances that picking a few shrooms from this group of very similar looking mushrooms will lead to a poisonous one? I know that it's stupid to risk eating wild shrooms, but he has been eating them for a couple weeks and says they're great. Would you eat them?

Never eat anything unless you know what it is. Bring a field guide or something to look them up, or possibly take some spore prints.

^Either that or someone that knows what they're are doing. Usually there are hippies hanging about in the forests that might be able to assist you. But yeah it's not like the cow patties in some locations where there is only one type of mushroom it could be anything.

Haha, alright.. that's kind of strange advice. But yes, I have been doing research, and I am almost positive that they are P. cyanescens, but I am doing spore prints right now and I'm going to ask for an ID on shroomery, so hopefully I'll be more sure in the morning! The only other possibility is that they're galerinas, which would be terrible, but since my friend is still alive and the shrooms fit the criteria of a cyanescens way better than that of a galerina, I think I may have some free shrooms!

sometimes galerina grow in cyan patches. if they bruise, have purple spores, and an all white stem--it can't be anything but a mushroom from the species psilocybe. sorry for the vague reply you came off like you didn't know anything.

Unless you are terribly sure about the shrooms being the shrooms of lore then you should stay away, fungi kills
get some books on the stuff or something?

There are thousands of types of non-poisionous mushrooms, the amount of poisionous types in the world are 5, maybe less.

Research the types of mushrooms in your area. erowid can help with that, look in the photo section, everything has the location it was found in...

go on shroomery and ask if there are any dangerous lookalikes....

know the characteristics of what your looking for, and the poisonous ones as well... do spore prints as well...
