| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. What would happen to the united state if the south seceded again?
I think the Union(those who don't secede) would crumble and the south would flourish. What resources do the northern states really have? Fishing and industry and thats about it. Southern states have that plus agriculture, livestock, oil, natural gas, probably other shit. If the south did secede again, I think the union would eventually rejoin the south this time. Thoughts?

Re: What would happen to the united state if the south seceded again?
South secedes, there goes the oil in the Gulf. Along with the space tech in Florida, and numerous farming industries decline.
North, realizing how much they'll lose in oil revenue, and eager to prove to the world that they're not Rome 2.0, shovels troops down south, raping and pillaging once again.
South recovers some 50-odd years later, Baptists resume being assholes, Mardi Gras is still fun.

In a conventional war, we'd win. We have the majority of military installations and whatnot.

By "we" do you mean you would be a part of the seceding Southern states or part of the nefarious negative North?

That's assuming the Military (Or at least the military in the south) decides to break it's loyalty to the Union and fight for the Seceding states instead.
One of the jobs of the Military is keep the country together and to keep it from destroying itself. Chances are, as soon as you guys started rioting to secede (I honestly don't know how else you'd go about seceding without the Army's help), the president would simply declare Martial law in those states and deploy the Military to stop the uprisings.
But yes, if all the southern stationed military units and all decided to fight the North, you'd probably win.
I just don't see why they'd want to secede. Both sides need eachother, do they not?

Re: What would happen to the united state if the south seceded again?
Well since the armed forces take an oath to uphold the constitution and seceding was deemed unconstitutional, the army would fight against the seceding states, probably. Also, why would the South secede anyway? What would they stand to gain by seceding from the US?

The south has the same resources as the north such as industry and fishing, but the north doesnt have agriculture or livestock or oil.

Re: What would happen to the united state if the south seceded again?
Wow. The north has FINANCES, c'mon. It seems like you guys are looking at things a bit outdated, fishing and agriculture, when these things can be easily imported. Finances and the service industry are more important. The south would fall off the face of the world. The south is bottom in income and education, while being top in crime, religiosity, and pure stupidity . Believe me, I live there, I should know.

The North would join with Canada and the South would still try to keep the Mexicans from coming into their lands.

The South could promise the Mexicans California though. Mexico invading California wouldn't be great for the union war effort.

Living in California, I'm sure we will side with the Union. Sure we have a lot of rednecks in this state that will want to side with the Confederacy. But they get jack shit in say when in comes to decisions because its the cities that will side with the Union that generates all of the revenue. And yes we will keep the Mexicans we have. If the rednecks decide to revolt, we'll just replace them with the Mexicans.
However, if Virginia sides with the Confederacy again, we may be fucked this time around.

Don't you think at that point - all out Civil War - wealth/"Finances" would be determined more by a material standard like gold, and less by a fiat standard that would probably be decimated by the turmoil?
Wasn't Kentucky on the verge of seceding during the Civil War? Fort Knox can stand toe-to-toe with the Federal Bank in NY. Specially since a large portion of the gold in NY belongs to other countries...

in the unlikely event of such a war i would have to think that both sides would decimate each other in a continental nuclear war. leaving only Hawaii safe from the fall out.
an from these ashes a grand new pineapple republic will emerge. spreading joy across the land.

Yeah I know California would side with the union.
That's the point - the confederates promise Mexico that they'll recognize California as part of Mexico and provide logistical support, ect.
Mexicans invade California, and the confederates (hopefully) don't end up with a second front in Texas and whatnot, which could easily happen if they don't get Mexico on side.
