Default Grow Box - Does It Make Sense?

I came up with a way to grow weed. This way, you won't have to pay money for hydroponics, or worry about dogs. I'm just wondering if you think it will work before I waste my money.

Here it is: You make a box, maybe a foot deep and 2 feet across. You fill it up with soil and put some seeds in. Then, you carry it with you as you climb up a tree. Set it on a branch about 15-20 feet up, and nail it to the trunk and branch. Then, duct tape it with that camouflage duct tape all up ons to the tree. Caulk/rubber cement it to the tree, etc. to secure it as best as possible.

Then, in theory, it would be able to get sun and rain and heat and air, without being found by police or others. Climate would be a factor in if this works.

So, do you think it will work? If not, what other clever ways are there?

You would have to climb to water/fertilize but it would work if it didnt fall off during a storm

Sounds nice as long as you can keep it far enough away from people .. :)

What about getting some big buckets (say at least 10 gallons), and just put a seedling in each of them, and hang them off a strong branch and secure them to the main branches as secure as possible ..

Should work with some creativity :)

You might have to cut away some branches to make sure it gets constant sunlight, even though that would ruin any chance of hiding it from public view. Maybe in a small forest or something?

How are you going to fertilize it? or (less importantly) check/ adjust pH? Climbing a tree with a 2'x2'x1' box, then hammering it down while in the tree will be more difficult than you think. Plus, the branches above the box will block out any direct sunlight.

You're not the first to think up growing in trees... however

..to be honest, seems like more hassle than its worth, especially if its only for a few plants. You're better off putting you time and energy into a plot that people won't stumble onto.

I thought this was all incredibly creative! But I think it is too much work really.

Theres a lot of wind up there, it'll dry out your plants, also there is a lot of swaying too.

Use a 20 Litre plastic container anyway. Use a 'rope on a pully' thing to pull it up there when you want too.

Neat idea!

I would use some of those hanging baskets; they're made out of moss.
Secure it to the tree so it doesn't sway in the wind
Fill with some lightweight soil.
Add some time-release nutrients.
Add some of this for when things get dry: http://www.altgarden.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=382
And grow something Lowryder based, maybe Diesel Ryder.
Make sure its a VERY bushy tree, somewhere out of the way.

Peace.

There was a thread about this on planetganja, it should work, as long as you're able to climb the tree regulary to water it and it doesn't fall down.

Way to much work, just find yourself a good grow spot on Terra firma.

There is a product like that called gellscape that you can buy at most plant nurseries. I used to use it when I used to work as a landscaper. In the long run, you can really tell the difference between plants that had the gellscape and the ones that didnt. But in a marijuana grow, it could benefit in well draining mediums like coco coir (which by the way is the best growing medium IMO). Time release nutrients only last for so long, and seedlings dont need or want any nutrients for the first 2-3 weeks. That could easily cause nute burn. They get all the nutrition they need from the first leaves that appear, the cotyledons. Until they start to die off, don't fertilize. Either way, the guy wanting to do this will be spending a lot of time up in that tree transplanting, feeding, watering, etc.

All in all, I think this method would be a giant pain in the ass. If you are forced to grow outdoor, just go out on a hike and find a spot no one will find. And there are tons and tons of ways to protect against pests.
