Default Absinthe

I know that absinthe is not just any old drink, i have heard that it is has some hallucinogenic properties, and that has puzzled me greatly. I would like to hear from people that have felt the hallucinogenic effects of Absinthe, and whether or not you suggest that i should purchase some for myself. Any help is greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance,
ptcult

Tell you something mate, Absinthe is nothing to be fucked with...

I first had some when I was only 15 and already smashed out of my face in the first place. Hallucinogenic properties? I'd agree with that. When I had some, every fuckers eyes merged into one huge eye in the centre of their heads, sort of funny and scary at the same time. I was fucked of the stuff.

I'd certainly suggest trying some like mate, just don't go too far with it too quickly since the stuff's usually bout 80 percent Alcohol or something. I've done some research on it being hallucinogenic or not and it turns out that a long time ago the liqour was said to contain psychoactive chemicals, most notably thujone (a ketone like substance). It was later found out that these chemicals only appeared in small and almost negligible amounts, not enough to induce any psychedelic effects. I think it's psychoactive properties had been exaggerated at the time and let's face it mate, I seriously doubt the Europeans in 1915 had ever tried anything so strong so they would obviously think it's something different to regular alcohol.

Thankfully, it's readily available in most pubs where I live in England.

I would love to try Absinthe as well, I'm only 15 so pubs are out of the question. Tell me how it goes though, love to hear your experience as well.

it won't make you hallucinate, its just strong (70%) and it will get you drunk fast...

placebo effect might make things seem weird but don't expect much else

It's just hard liquor that contains wormwood, which is a a plant with mild hallucinogenic properties. You used wormwood as one of your tags, so I don't really see what your question is. :s

Anybody who thinks absinthe has hallucinogenic properties is a fucking moron and needs to be put down. (http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/absinthe.htm)

The chemical that's taken all the blame for absinthe's hallucinogenic reputation is called thujone, which is a component of wormwood.

...there is no evidence at all that thujone can cause hallucinations, even in high doses.

It's a high ABV drink. That's all. Stop spreading bullshit.
