Default Drug/Opiate Phobias

A while back I wound up in hospital because I combined codeine with dxm (yes, fucking whatever) and had breathing and heart problems because of it. Before this experience I had been an infrequent oxycodone, dihydrocodeine and codeine user, among other things. But since I went to the emergency room I'm scared of using opiates, because when I have, the respiratory depression has given me panic attacks and paranoia and generally leading into the whole use of opiates making think that I am going to die. I know that logically, I almost certainly will not die from taking x amount of opiate, but I have this psychological block that scares the living fuck out of me. Even with alcohol/ciggarettes and weed I get worried like fuck about my lungs and breathing, and I cant stop imagining that ill go into respiratory arrest and die.

I want to get the fuck over this illogical fear of opiates, but is it a good thing for me to even use opiates, or any drug for that matter, given that when I went to hospital I had an EKG to check on my heart, and it came back as abnormal with a RBBB. Google says that this is just an electrical anomaly, and not something to worry about, however the doctor in the ER said I should stay away from strong stimulants. He did however come across as an anti-drug-opiate nazi who was attempting to convince me that if I took any drug...I would die, no matter what. So, what the fuck?

And yes I do feel like a pussy for being scared of a little respiratory depression and tachycardia

DXM is considered a good potentiator for most opiates and is said to reduce tolerance. Call that shitty? From experience though, IMO benzos work best for potentiating opiates.

On to the question, if it's getting to the point where these side-effects(mental/physical) are interfering with your "high" than stop doing it. I wouldn't combine alcohol with opiates, especially those with APAP (even if you CWE).

It's a good thing that your worried. Besides say what I did, what do you expect us to do?

Why do people ask these questions? If drugs bother you and make you uncomfortable, don't use them. What's the problem?

I had your same fear but it was after I overdosed on a couple different things, I had to much anxiety from just doing anything, even drinking a little bit, worrying about my heart or any other health problems.

I could never do any drug for awhile because of the fear of something going wrong.
