Replacement for a turkey baster for siphoning xylene?
Sorry if this has been done before, but I really don't have time to look it up ATM. I was wondering if maybe anyone had an idea of what I could use to siphon xylene from a mescaline extraction. I've basically melted 3 turkey basters now. The tops keep getting holes. A sep funnel is too expensive right now. So basically, I need a cheap, efficient way to get this xylene off of this water. Thanks for any ideas.

You can also buy stainless steel turkey basters.

Would be my suggestion, :) but I don't have a clue what xylene doesn't eat. There'll be something, and then its just a case of getting a length of hose.
If not, then zip lock bag method, at a guess, I bet PTFE is pretty inert.

So, what would be a good replacement for a turkey baster besides buying the actual glass? Question not answered yet..

Re: Replacement for a turkey baster for siphoning xylene?
Urr....couldnt you make your own glass pipette?(isnt this basically a turkey baster?) Not 100% sure if thats what you mean, or if the turkey baster your using is plastic or not.
Just use a glass tube, then stick your thumb on one end after dipping it into the xylene? Just a(possibly stupid?) thought....

I think he's looking for a replacement for a separatory funnel, rather than a pipette. Further, while using just a glass tube would kinda work as a pipette, it's much better to use some kind of bulb on the top, in order to fill it by suction as well as to exert greater control of the process...
Just a(possibly stupid?) thought....
Remember, there are no stupid questions - only stupid people... :p

Re: Replacement for a turkey baster for siphoning xylene?
I ended up making a siphon attached to an aspirator, both made of PTFE. It works pretty damn well, actually.
The sep funnel idea wouldn't have worked, because I had cactus powder in the water, which would have clogged it. I thought of that after reading this thread again.

Really ghetto ways include.
Glass sun tea dispensers, and proper gloves; and for smaller amounts you can always pop a hole in the bottom of a glass Sobe bottle.
Both ways are ghetto as hell.

Is this one of those ceremonial sacrifices where if I pretend I'm willing then I get let off and I just get to kill an ox instead? Or one of those ones where I turn up pretending I'm all up for it and then have my heart ripped out and my skin turned into a tunic for the high priest?

This is very much in the style of the latter, except whether you are "up for it" or not is of no concern... ;)

Pfft, I'm in the UK. That means that as long as I don't convert to Islam, and I continue to appear white to pigs eyes, I'm fine. :)
Anyway, we totally derailed this thread, and my posts per day average is being severely impacted by this bout of reckless postage. Good day to you sir!

Shit man, I didn't know what had happened to him... I assume some legal troubles? I remember a guy getting picked up for ordering ammonium nitrate, but I think that might have been someone on APC back in the day.
I searched through a few pages of his posts and the threads he started and couldn't see anything. Then again, the last time he was online was last year... I hope he's okay. :(

I think you're referring to redsky, who was by my accounts at least, a dick. Delusional, uncaring for others safety, and when the police raided him, they found he was storing far too much AP. And the 25kg ANFO blast in a beer keg, I think it was ANFO at least, I think nuclearabbit had the video on his YT account.

It was a 12kg det, and Resso was raided because of files that he wrote that were found on redskys computer. Resso is a good dude, and I am still friends with him, but redsky, as far as I know, is taking it up the ass in prison atm.
