Lobsters as Pets
So my room mates and I want to get some lobsters, have them as pets for a while, then eat them. I have a few questions
1)How long, if properly cared for, would a lobster bought from a grocery store last?
2)What do lobsters eat?

Re: Lobsters as Pets
Lobsters (the kind you eat) need cold water to live. You'll need a several hundred dollar chiller to keep them happy.
You can do crayfish, and eat them too. Or you can do tropical lobsters. They're pretty cool looking.

What about putting ice, or those ice packs in every few days?

How much do tropical lobsters retail for and how big of a tank do they require?

Re: Lobsters as Pets
Maine lobsters require water that's rather frigid, probably around 50-55°. I've been swimmin up thar where they reside, tis quite chilly. If you live in canada then run your water through a radiator outside and you're good to go. Otherwise, hunt down an old fridge someone's getting rid of on craigslist in the free section, then mod that bad mo fo to chill your tank.
They take 7 years to grow to eatin size, so don't expect to start farming them and snacking on lobster all the time.
And they eat anything and everything that falls to the bottom of the ocean, including but not limited to dead fish, crabs, lobsters, live lobsters, probably shellfish, etc.
No idea, but you might be able to feed to meat scraps. Go google!

Add like $10 for your local fish store.

Re: Lobsters as Pets
You really want a spiny lobster, cuban spiny lobster, or shovel nosed lobster.
I've had all but the cuban spiny.
You want ones that can fit comfy in your tank, and can run around a bit. A legal sized spiny could probably live ok in a 100+ gallon tank.
