| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Re: You stumble in on a numbers station.
Fuck, I just noticed this thread. From the title, I assumed it was to do with radio communications hacking. Something I know nothing about...so I've kept away from it. Dammit.
So...
"Every code is a word. All words are in keys of three. All words are 6 char long."
So each post you have made contains one encrypted word?
Each word(post) when decrypted will reveal a six character English(in the dictionary) word?
"All words are in keys of three", sorry I don't understand what you mean by that. I'll have a go once I understand what that means.

Re: You stumble in on a numbers station.
Ok so lets say you want to encrypt "cat"
Secret pass is "132" "142" "234"
C = 12
A = 124
T = 777
132 142 234 secret code
012 124 777 code for cat
144 266 1011 <=== The code you see.
To get cat again take away secret code and you get the number.
So each post you have made contains one encrypted word?
Each word(post) when decrypted will reveal a six character English(in the dictionary) word?
Exactly
"All words are in keys of three", sorry I don't understand what you mean by that. I'll have a go once I understand what that means.
All the letters in the alphabet have 3 digits whether its 923 or 001.

_______________
012 124 777

Re: You stumble in on a numbers station.
407 718 1088 1026 293 903
If each letter is in a key of 3, then why are there 20 numbers? 20 is not divisable by 3.
C = 12
A = 124
T = 777
Why do they equal those values? Or is it part of the challenge to figure that out?
I understand that we have [encoded 20 digit string] - [key] = numerically encoded answer. Convert numbers into ascii, and have the solution. Just don't get why the characters equall those values. Have you changed the key for every post as well?

For CAT its just random. You use random numbers for the characters making it impossible to crack. Unless you do multiple messages with the same key.
So all the posts use the same key except for cat. You only need to crack two letters the rest are logic.
