Default Buying Presents

There's a girl I work with at home who I quite like, I'm 99% sure she at least used to like me but I don't know if she still does, she suggested her coming to visit me but that was like 6 weeks ago and she hasn't mentioned it since, although thats probably because I havnt invited her and she doesnt want to seem too keen. I havn't seen her in like 2-3 months but it's her birthday coming up. I told her a couple of times that I'd get her a present but I don't know if she'll remember/expect one. I know a present I could get her that she'd probably really like but I don't want it to seem weird and too thoughtful so I'm contemplating just getting her a card or something. Here's how I see my options:

1.) Get her the present she'd probably really like, risk it seeming too thoughful because it might just come over as sweet and just right amount of thoughtful.

2.) Send her a card, she'd probably still like it, no risk of seeming weird.

3.) Get her nothing, realise I probably won't ever get round to asking her out. Save the money.

What are your views? I need someone to blame if I make the wrong choice and everything goes wrong.

Try to catch up with her and see her before getting a present?

Get her the card. It says you're thinking of her and stuff.

In your situation, I'd invite her down to my gaff, give her the card, take her out for a drink and see where it goes from there. Remember, sex can be a present. Just ask any married woman! :D

Get her a present, be forward, do not let society's rules dictate your actions!

Oh and the present isnt something shit like flowers or something crappy romantic, it's actually something she'd find interesting, the kind of thing you'd get for a good friend. (inb4friendzone)

The "friends zone" doesn't exist.

Find some sorta concert/cool event and buy tickets for both of you. Then she gets to enjoy her present while hanging with you.
