Default Don't know what to do

Ugh. K. So basically for the past few months I've completely alienated all my friends. Past few years, actually. For various reasons. Mainly because most of them have turned into cokeheads, or we no longer have anything in common anymore, or whatever. Not cool. So I've pretty much been spending all my time either with my boyfriend and his friends, or buried in schoolwork. Honestly, I'm bored. This isn't what I want my life to be like.

Today I was thinking about how different things would be, under varying circumstances. While me and the boyfriend were broken up I started hanging out with a bunch of new people, and I met a guy I really liked. I don't see them anymore either, or the guy. For various reasons, things never worked out, he moved away and we don't talk anymore. Anyway, that's what I was thinking about today, how things would be if that had worked out and such.

So tonight I went to rent a movie, and who do I happen to run into? The guy. He's in town for the weekend. He was with some girl, but we talked a bit. Really weirded me out. Really, really weirded me out. Freaky coincidence or is this some sort of sign? And what the hell should I do? I'm sick as hell of life being so boring. First chance I get I'm moving the hell away and doing grad/law school anywhere else, but I'm stuck here for at least 2 more years and I don't know if I can deal with the monotony and the loneliness much longer. :(

You're doing law school in 2 years? In Canada?

Look me up.

I don't think so.

I've given the whole "new life" thing a contemplation many times. At worst, the French Foreign Legion is always an option. Hopefully it doesn't even get to it, but if I ever decide to just fuck it all, I'll fill up a bag of shit and move the fuck on.

There's no such thing as fate. Nobody was telling you this is a good idea. It may be, or it may be a stupid thing to do. The choice is yours, you have the responsibility of making it and you will carry the burden.

Personally, I wouldn't jump from 1 guy to another. Try being single for a while, it'll give you a lot of time to think.

Oh yes definitely. The French Foreign Legion would be very safe. You know as soon as someone fires off a shot you and all your other limp wrist flap jawed compatriots will throw up the surrender flag faster then when the blitzkrieg came rolling through.

Who said anything about jumping from one guy to another? It just freaked me out that he happened to show up like that, out of nowhere, at Blockbuster of all places, especially on a day when I was thinking about him. He's supposed to be far far away!! It has nothing to do with me wanting to be with another guy. I'm just desperately bored and I miss my friends and spending time with people I actually like. The boyfriend is great and all, but really, I don't want to spend all my free time with the same person. It's boring and annoying. I need new stimuli.

The answer is simple.

Feel free to waste your life away because you're afraid to move on, but the fact that you wrote what you just did proves that there's no long-lasting love that'll survive a hundred years.

If you can't see yourself with him in the future, don't stay with him now. It's counterproductive and you'll end up settling a few years down the road because you never bothered to take out the trash.

Sorry if it sounds harsh, it's not meant to be, I'm sober.

k, time for an adventure?

Just because things are boring right now, that doesn't mean it's time to toss life to the wind; however, having some sort of fun sounds like as good an idea as ever. :)

It never hurts to throw some excitement into the mix. It's an opportunity.

You're doing the mature thing and putting your priorities in the places that count. That's great for the long-term, but have some fun along the way. I'm sure there are plenty of worthwhile, or entertaining, people out there that would be happy to get to know you. Start saying hello to some new people when you head out, or start looking for some new places to hang out.

What about work? Maybe try something new on that front?

Regardless, you have options and people that care. :)

I feel almost exactly the same way. It's a coincidence you saw the guy. I don't know what you should do. You could try what I'm doing and sort of waste time in the most productive way possible.

So, what you guys are collectively telling me is to dump my boyfriend, get a new job, go on an adventure and do something with my life? I will ponder.

Don't forget - get high as well. Makes anything better.

The guy in this thread here (http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum32/HTML/008626.html) has it a lot worse than you.

Maybe it'll help, maybe it won't.

Don't go on an adventure if it will fuck up your life too much. Wait for the summer and take two weeks off rather than just getting out of dodge now.

Yeah, I can't really up and leave in the middle of the semester. Gotta wait until the summer, then I'm off to Europe. Should probably make some money too...

I'm not saying that you should dump your boyfriend, unless he smells like pee. I can't really support staying with anybody that smells like pee.

However, I am suggesting change of whatever sort catches your eye, interest, or passion.

Seriously lol'd. That was the most un-eudaish thing I've ever heard you say. Good work.

Dem...I was in a similar situation so I quit my job, broke up with my girlfriend and left the country. I grew as a person for it, and came to appreciate the things I had. I wont be making the same mistakes again. Stop playing life so safe, seriously, what have you got to lose? There are no do-overs, no second chances. Go out, do something dangerous, kiss some exotic guys, get a tattoo, get laid, have an adventure and get a scar with an awesome story behind it.

You feel like your life lacks excitement and your boyfriend isn't providing it. Don't dump him just yet. Make it clear that you need more to the mundane existence you're living. Give him a chance to provide the entertainment, adventure and excitement. If he fails to deliver, then dump him. I suggest this safer option because I highly doubt you'll drop everything and do something memorable. You might quit your job, you might hook up with this guy, but nothing more superficial than that. I'm not sure that you're feeling exactly what I felt, but I needed a massive shock to my system to get out of the rut, and you probably do as well.

You've always been one of my favorite posters, don't know why, so I hope that you do something actually worth telling your grandkids about one day. Any way, good luck.

Yaay, I'm getting advice from my 2 favourites. :)

He doesn't smell like pee. I AM quitting my job. Today I had to babysit someone's grandkids and a communist was dumping dust on my head. I'm a receptionist. That's not in the job description. Arquin, I'd love to do what you did and just up and leave, but I can't leave school right now. This summer, I'm gone, but for now I'm stuck here. And I know I have to get out of my rut. I'm so old and lame now, it's horrible. I need fun. Haha, I'm so depressing...

Thanks everyone. :)

Summer? Isn't winter just about to start? OUCH...half a year.

Well the Canadian snow season starts very soon right? I guess you could take some week ends off and go to kicking horse or something to break up the routine?

Oh and you do sound like you have lost a certain 'energy' you used to possess, almost like a caged animal. It's kind of sad to see, but then again I could be completely wrong.

You have to also look at it as short term vs. long term.

If you take shit now, at least you'll have a place to sleep, hot water and hot meals, and a degree. And when it's all done, you'll be able to enjoy your freedom far more, knowing you'll have at least some security. Till then the small pleasures can keep you happy.

For me it was the army and a guitar.

You'll find some excitement and your passion never flags. Everyone's batteries get drained sometimes; it's nothing unusual. :)

Any ideas on what the next job could be? Shop around; there are lots of exciting opportunities. If you narrow things down a bit, I'm sure that I could help. You've got a million opportunities.

Rant at me and you'll hear back. I'm busy as high hell, but there's always time for some people.

No worries; I ended up "working" for around 36 hours and had some fun at BP. :)

I even got to meet a girl that's exactly like that East Indian girl on The Office. It was good stuff.

Make sure you find one that will keep you entertained and maybe even interested. They're out there, honest.

Dump the guy you dumb fucking bimbo. Stupid fucking retarded whore, if you like another guy take your boyfriend's ass out of the picture. That's just not fucking cool. It's unfair to your boyfriend who'd probably be appauled and to yourself. If you were my girlfriend I'd smack you silly woman! Don't stay with someone if you like someone else. I'll definitely be in the mountains this year. Lots and lots. Lots.

A good idea would be to work at a ski resort in the French Alps. Mountain staff usually go on heaps of road trips, smoke heaps of pot and any guy you hook up with will either be a tourist (gone in a few days/weeks) or a seasonal worker (gone at the end of the season). Helps keep things fresh!
