I have been drinking 5 days a week now and I'm really at the point where I can't stop. I literally wake up not wanting to drink, but by the end of the night I find myself drinking. I have had many conflicts while drunk, I've spent money I didn't want to spend and I was recently charged with DUI. I feel like it has cost me so much but I still find myself drinking. Does anyone have any advice on this sort of thing?

Most people don't seem to decide they can't stop until they're drinking 7 days a week...so that's a good thing I guess that you can go a day or 2 without it. Other then that when you drink, try not to drink to get wasted, just get a nice buzz. That'll probably help a bit so far as keeping out of trouble goes.

I spent the last three months getting drunk at 4:30am, and around 4:30pm when I got home. Just stopped when I felt like it. So my advice would be to just stop.

Really, you're only doing it out of boredom. It will take time, but find other things to fill those time gaps with.

Once you have a little bit, your body starts a chemical reaction requiring/making you drink MORE.

But, in all honesty op, it doesn't sound like you are deep in the hole at all.

Just go ahead and distance yourself from the habit/people. Stop going to the bar after work, reward yourself with something else... like a good fat newspaper, or some tea.

You will have problems for a few weeks falling asleep.

Take some time off from work, and skip the day of sleep by drinking coffee/tea all day if you find yourself awake by morning.

Do that until you get back into your schedule.

Seriously tho, stop being a pussy, and be a man. Cutting back on any habit is difficult, but that is what makes you a man as opposed to an animal.

Alcohol is one of the most addictive substances there is. I've had plenty of friends and family members drop meth/coke/dope/etc. with no problem, but I have never personally witnessed an alcoholic get clean. It kills me to see the people in my life living like that and knowing that I can do nothing about it. You've obviously never had alcohol withdrawls. People actually die when they try to stop drinking cold-turkey. The dependence is almost entirely physical.
