i didnt have a recovery disk unfortunately but i had a ubuntu 8.04 disk

so i gave it a try
i got to say im actually liking it
but i have one problem...
i can stay on the interned at about 10 minutes at a time and then it loses connection
im using a toshiba satellite a105-s4384 laptop

i heard that others are having the same problem for there wireless but after reading several forums i cant really understand what there talking about

if somebody could dumb down the steps for me that would be great!!!
im a super noob at this but very eager to learn!

Have you tried searching for your wireless driver for linux and installing/updating it?

2) what pages were you looking at that you didn't understand?

Im on a toshiba satellite a105 s2712, and my internet works pretty good. Did you update your bios. When I updated my bios above version 1.7 internet and sound started to fuck up, but at version 1.7 things run smoothly. The wireless card is Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection and the driver is ipw2200.

Post the output of: iwconfig
and
iwlist
or
iwscan

One of those should print out a dB level of your wireless signal, this is the decibal level of the wireless signal. It also prints out some other interesting information relating to problems you describe.

Your link quality looks OK, but at -60 dB your shit is not going to stay connected for long. Try something very simple, move closer to your wireless access point, and run iwconfig again, post your results or if you get this same reading of -60 dB Signal Level, take the interface down then bring it back up again, in Fedora systems it is: ifdown wlan0 ; ifup wlan0

Your system may or may not have ifup/ifdown.
Post your results.
