maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
The first blush of a new passion, consummated with physical intimacy, is a wonderful feeling. There is no drug in the world that can create the same euphoria.
How long is it reasonable to maintain the "honeymoon" period?
Any tips on how to keep it going?

Wrong.
But as for your question... I don't even know if it's possible to purposely "maintain" that. If you are right for each other you should be happy anyway.

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
Wrong.
Actually he's quite right. MDMA and opiates etc. might create a more intense euphoria, but they can't immitate that feeling.

Wrong again.
Those drugs create the feelings they do BECAUSE they immitate chemicals that create those feelings in you; the human.

A real experience creates a combination of chemicals of varying concentrations. While it might be possible to imitate with drugs, it's highly unlikely.

When you find the right one you will not have to worry about making it last. It just will.

Drugs > anything in real life in regards to euphoria. Bang some hard opiates and tell me your fuck pillow makes you feel better then that.

If you stay together long enough it will eventually fade into comfortable stability. Head over heels is just the first faze.

You're right. I could ramble on how I think this is different... I won't though.
Time will tell I suppose.

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
Me and my girlfriend have that feeling on and off, with fights in between that leave you with a sinking chest feeling. You know. Crying and shit.
But I guess having it really good half the time and really sad half the time is better than having a relationship of constant mediocrity

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
the head-over-heels feeling of the "newness" of the relationship will no doubt fade over time, then you either break up from the other person actually showing his/her true self (if they didn't from the start) and fighting all the time, or you stay together because you actually click and grow even more attached to one other.

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
We spent most of the last 72 hours together, much of it in bed.
Yesterday she introduced me to her mother who advised her that since she and I are both firstborn children and somewhat controlling that we would crash and burn as soon as the infatuation wears off and we have our first argument.

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
do what you can to keep things new and exciting. cultivate new memories and experiences and try to introduce new elements to the relationship dynamic. if you two are compatible, things will work out. just try not to let things get old, tired or predictable.

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
Ive wondered the same question. Ive only had 1 serious relationship, and it ended up a nightmare. Constantly breaking up and getting together, drunken fights (her getting drunk), Loss of magic, and mediocre sex that slowly didnt happen as much.
We broke up a while ago, and aside from some dates......i have yet to find another relationship. I hope there is a girl where i can find some sort of way to keep that feeling going.
(As for the drug addicts who think drugs can top the feeling go fuck yourself. MDMA does kick ass, and so do a million other drugs, but nothing can bring about the same feeling as infatuation. Of coarse your infatuated with drugs ROFL)

This. The head-over-heels feeling either fades with time, or turns into something completely different which is less intense but much deeper...if that makes any sense.

Re: maintaining that head-over-heels feeling
This has been worked out, considering things like endorphins: You can expect the infatuation to last for around 18 months, then there'd better to be something else left when it fades.
Of course this 18 month period can be significantly reduced, depending on people. If you don't stay on your toes and slump into a predictable routine and stop surprising each other then you might be looking at a year or so. If you're quite a detestable person and don't cover it up very well, 3-6 months.
