How to be hired as a mercenary?
Well ever since I was in my teenage years I've wanted to be a mercenary, still to this day I want to pursue the life of being a mercenary. Ever since I was young I have been learning self defense, right now I'm serving in the Army. So I have some experience in the field, where should I start looking for employment?

Re: How to be hired as a mercenary?
Speaking from experience.
There will be recruiters waiting for you outside the major military bases, as well as in the field. Dont get it wrong as they are ALWAYS there waiting, but when they need new people, like for a new mission/contract they will just set up camp (more like a cute lady waiting by her car, and when a soldier leaves she will proceed to ask question like when hes up to re-enlist, what his job is, stuff like that. If its someone she needs, and his term is up soon, she will give him her card)outside a military base (theyre not allowed on base)
Its different in the field. Many will just flag you down while your on patrol. Many are like leeches and investigators. Sometimes they will know WHO they want and proceed to learn everything about him, before ever meeting. I was approached in a bank in Kuwait once. The lady was from Dinocorp or something like that. She followed me from base.
Monetary speaking though, expect to make a hell of alot more in the private business than you would in the service. But it depends on what your trained for. Im a scout sniper. And I guess they were putting together a mission to some country where they needed snipers. (she wouldnt tell me where, shes not allowed to disclose that info to "outsiders") If your any form of infantry, especially one whos seen action, expect to make atleast 70 grand. Also enlistment bonuses, and if you have decorations, even more. Also the higher your rank, the more you get) My buddy was approached while on patrol in iraq. They offered him 80 grand to start. He turned them down.
Blackwater is the number one contractor. So they pay the big bucks. But they also want only the best.
But be warned. Many of your buddies in the service might look down on you. Your officers will hate you, and make your life hell even if they so much as see you talk to one.
EDIT: I forgot, you can also fill out an application online from one of the contractors.

And if you sign up and get into trouble...
You will die and your corpse will be desecrated.

I hear Blackwater usually only like to recruit from the American military after you have done you're service, I'm Australian and I've currently got 2 years service left. After my contract I'd like to be recruited into Blackwater, is this still possible considering I'm Australian. I'd preferably like to be deployed to Africa, is Blackwater the only mercenary service you know about?
I've never been asked by anyone to join there company while I served over in Iraq, although the American Army is quite different to the Australian Army

Re: How to be hired as a mercenary?
Yeah you should have mentioned your Aussie. I assumed you were american.
Blackwater is not the only one. Theres dyncorp (the one that tried to get me, lol i called it dinocorp in my previous post)executive decisions (a south african one, very famous) There are almost a hundred out there. However I never heard of one from australia. You might have better luck with a uk company, since you guys would technically be from the same realm or something. I dunno.
Most private military companies are from America. Theres a few from uk, and a few more from south africa.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private...y#List_of_PMCs
Im sure youll find more that are not on there.
Im not familiar with the australian army or their rules/accomplishments. But I would imagine the companies would be on the lookout for american and british servicemen as they seen a lot more action than the other nations in iraq. but I really dont know.
You woulnt be able to be recruited until your completed your service. So it might be a good idea to email a few of the companies and ask their combat experience requirements or anything else. Plus it would put you on their prospect list to check up on you when your service is over.
