First off, that ring is really pretty, and I don't think you will get scammed, since it's so cheap due to the rubies not being real. Also, my sister in law has experience buying rings and such off of ebay, and I have a couple of really nice ones. So don't worry about that.

If you really plan on telling her you didn't get one, and she acts all pissy, maybe you should hold off on getting it just yet. Something like that isn't something you demand. It's meant to be special, so don't let her force you to get one. It devalues the whole ideal of "promising" to love one another.

Yeah, I would say just get it because it's so cheap, but I mean...I think the emotional motivation behind it wouldn't be there, and it just wouldn't be the same.

Maybe tell her it's a practice promise ring? Hah.

A good friend of mine broke up with a girlfriend he had been with a long time and bought a promise ring for.
The ring is now sitting on the top of his dresser in a pile of random shit.

If it'll get you laid/get you some sort of favour from her other than a promise ring in return, I'd go for it. Otherwise fuck it, fuck her and fuck promise rings.

I'm rather annoyed that some children think a physical representation of a promise is somehow more valid than the promise alone.

Kids and their little delusions.

Fuck promise rings indeed, they sound like some lame lovey-dovey christian bullshit.

Yeah, wait...what is it? Is it a promise that you'll love each other? Why would you need a ring for that? Or is it a pre-pre engagement (Arrested Development anyone)? Either way, seems kinda dumb..

Never heard of them before. Also I always considered asking for luxuries to be extraordinarily rude. Lay a brick in the bitches mouth.

I am unfamiliar with this concept of promise rings (might be an American thing), but like the others have said, it sounds like bullshit. If she asks you to promise to love her, she doesn't want a lover, she wants someone who will bend to her will. And that will only end badly for you.

But try explaining that to her without sounding like a douchebag. Women twist words.

Good luck.

It is a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid idea. Beyond stupid. Asinine even. If you want to get her a ring, get her a ring. But none of this promise ring bullshit. If you care about someone then you'll be with them and treat them right whether you've promised to or not. If you love someone you don't need some cheap jewelery off of Ebay to prove it. And the fact that she's pushing so hard for you to commit to her with a ring shows that she does not trust you to stay with her, and that she doesn't have enough faith in your relationship to let it exist without forced promises of fidelity and foreverness. And that is scary.

I'm actually glad people see the same way I do about it. Yes I know its the dumbest thing in the world to get her something that'll say "I love you" or whatever. I've told her multiple times that me loving her and showing it should be enough, and not "materialized" by a piece of jewelry.

That is exactly what it is. And instead of you buying some cheap ring with stupid intentions behind it, how about you spend time with her, or spend the money on something she can actually use.

If you wanna buy her somethng, just buy her some other form of jewelry, like earrings or a necklace or something.

Promise rings are a cutesy concept I suppose, but there is no real reason behind them.

for anniversaries or like valentines day sure I don't mind, but if you give it thought the whole promise thing takes away the entire reason why love is so great: just being together.
