Friday night I was out smoking a joint with my friend, X, and we sat down on a bench where there was this other girl, Y, who is a friend of X. We smoke the joint and I start talking with Y and she was interesting to talk to. X and I finish up the joint and leave Y, who was drawing.

As we're walking back X says that she thought I never would have had the connection with Y that I just had. I don't understand what she's getting at so I just nodded and agreed with her. We get back and I go to pass out. I think nothing of the whole encounter up until now.

Apparently after I had passed out X took my phone and put Y's number in it. I didn't realize this until yesterday. I asked X about it and she told me that she put Y's number in my phone and then I asked her if I had asked for Y's number and X said that I didn't even have to ask.

What I want to know is if it would be weird if I just called Y and asked her if she wanted to hangout?

Are X and Y both females?

This. Your friend is giving you a pretty good hint that you can most likely call the girl and have her appreciate it. Both are friends, right? And they probably know each other to the extent that your one friend probably knows she wouldn't be mad or distressed if you gave her a call.

It's not even a difficult situation to navigate. If she asks how you got her number, just say that your friend put it in your phone, and you thought you'd call her since you had gotten along so well the previous night. It's not that difficult IMO. There is already an established common ground of friendship with that friend of yours, so I think a considerable amount of her 'defenses' would be lowered at this point. Especially if what your friend is saying about you two hitting it off is accurate.
