I'm in a somewhat serious relationship right now, and I'm kind of regretting the commitment honestly. I miss the olden days when I hooked up at random and had a good time. One word, freedom. Yeah, people constantly change and adapt, like you said. But love is more than certain time / place specifics isn't it? Like the vows say - through better and through worse, through sickness and in health, etc.

People change, but not necessarily for the worse.

I don't, and will not, seek it. But if it finds you, why fight it... I suppose. A lot of people (most of them have vaginas) overuse the word "love" so much that it really means nothing when they say it. I think the real deal is pretty rare.

Agreed with the general sentiment that I'm not intentionally looking for it, but if I happen to be fortuitous, I'd be appreciative of it's presence in my life. I can survive quite easily without it, though. Platonic love (meaningful friendships) and my intellectual/creative pursuits and interests, etc, are enough to entertain me for a pretty long time. Even if I did find love, I'm sure there would be times when it took the backseat to some of my personal projects. Still, I think it would be pretty nice. It would probably be very humanizing, and could make me more compassionate towards collective humanity... since I'm pretty young (20) and presently doubting my ability to effectively 'relate' to others meaningfully.

I'm in love. Have been for five and a half years now. He was my first boyfriend and we got together when we were 16. We live together now and it's really great. I don't see it like a dependency like the OP was concerned about - it's more like two independent people sharing their lives with each other.

We've only ever had sex with each other and, although I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if I'd been single, I don't regret it. My single friends and I talk about our sex lives all the time and none of theirs seems to be as fulfilling as mine. I like it this way because there are no games or bullshit since we know how to please each other.
