www.richters.com is good but I don't know if you'd consider their price a reasonable one.

Salvia Divinorum is not exactly easy to grow compared to most plants, so the highish prices kind of make sense. I hope you've got your humidity tent and everything else, unless you can find one that's already adapted to low humidity. Ebay supposedly has good prices but I've never looked. The everyonedoesit site seemed to have good prices too.

I think more people should grow it.

?????

I live at 55°N and I find salvia to be one of the easiest plants to grow so if you're finding it difficult you're probably doing something wrong. Don't confuse atmospheric humidity with soil moisture, I know a fair few people who damage their plants by over-watering while attempting to increase humidity.

Very young plants sell fairly cheaply on Ebay, which can get you started if you're struggling to propagate cuttings.

I'm glad it's easy for you but that doesn't mean it would be easy for the majority of people. The plant isn't very hardy, since it has a tropical "forest in the clouds" background. It's easily damaged from shipping and there's a lot of mysterious diseases or fungi that attack it, probably cause it's not in its native environment and can't adapt as easily at the genetic level because the seeds aren't usually viable. The gene pool is rather stale.. The roots are also small and fragile. I think it's better suited to hydroponics than soil. Seems like anything does well in hydroponic systems. Obviously not anything but anything I've tried.

It's the same with people saying "Shrooms are easy to grow" uhhh no they're not. Sterile procedures are tedious and time consuming. And even then, you have no way of knowing whether the mycelium is that of a brain/lung eating mold or your mushroom mycelium until it sporulates or has been in the fruiting chamber long enough.

If mushrooms were easy to grow, everyone would be growing them. In a lot of major cities, they're hard to find for sale because they really aren't as easy to grow as some kids on the internet like to claim.

I can understand if you're struggling to germinate seeds, but it doesn't sound like that's what your talking about. I'm not trying to sound pompous or anything, but it is ridiculously easy to grow. If your Salvia is not thriving then you are actively doing something detrimental to it, like over-watering or over exposing it to the cold. I don't know where you learned that Saliva "isn't very hardy", but I wouldn't continue to use that place as a source of information. Considering where it is originally from, Salvia is remarkably hardy.

Next time you grow, just put your cuttings in ordinary potting soil with a covering of vermiculite (or something similar) on top next to a window (unless it's frosty outside). Don't bother with a humidity tent, just keep the soil moist with a spray gun. It really is that easy.

As I said, if your Salvia is not thriving then you are actively doing something detrimental to it.

*I can understand what you're saying about mushrooms, as there is a bit of a science to growing them. But growing mushies is a world away from growing salvia.

I found it required proper humidification until it acclimated to the natural environment ( I live about 34° N). After it was normalized, I'd just stick a cutting in a glass of water and within a week to 2 1/2 weeks and it would be fully rooted. It took my original plant (which I bought off of Ebay for $18 plus shipping) about 3 weeks to normalize to the humidity indoors and around a little bit longer outdoors. I may be wrong about the time it take to adjust since it's been over a year since I originally bought the damn thing.

Also, if you want some HWBR seeds, you can go to http:../../justsayonce.g2gm.com/default.htm and if you write him a letter saying you are of age and you would like to purchase some HWBR, he'd send some to you for a "relative price". The page contains all the details, but if you send him anywhere between $10 - 15 dollars, he'll send you quite a few specialties including (usually) 10X salvia, plain leaf salvia, roughly 6 - 12 HWBR seeds (speaking of which an HWBR plant spawned from one of his seeds I need to bring indoors), Calea Zacatchichi sometimes, and more. I sent him $30 dollars one time (with a corresponding letter of course) and I got a box in the mail with all sorts of things ... Truly one of the kindest people one could meet on teh internetz

I think that having a humidity of over 35% would be important in Winter too. If your air isn't humidified & it gets extremely cold outside, your air is liable to get very dry. Not what a tropical plant cares for, I'm sure.

Mushrooms are easy to grow and everyone who wants to and doesn't live with their parents does grow them. Sterile procedures are barely necessary with the PF TEK all you need is a pressure cooker. They're easier to grow then most garden plants/vegetables and way easier to grow than salvia. Sterile procedures are only tedious if you have no hygiene and live in a dusty shit house.

You're an idiot, and you've never grown shrooms. stfu

A pressure cooker is not necessary you stupid little kid. The pf tek only needs boiling water, but even with a pressure cooker some foreign fungi spores can survive in it and ruin the substrate. Flaming the needle is also important to not let foreign spores in on the needle, which happens a lot to dumbasses that think "all you need is a pressure cooker duurrr"

And the point is that you don't have these problems with plants. You won't have mold that can kill you possibly growing in with your plants.
