getting a free mp3 player from the store?
Here in the UK we have a large electrical shop called Curry's. Well their mp3 players are free to view and to be touched, but they're attached to some kind of black electrical wire. I'm guessing if the wire is cut,the circuit is broken and the alarm sounds. Can anyone think of a way around their system to get myself a mp3 player.(I'm not a greedy criminal, just want one,not 10).
Thanks and bye.

Can you give a bit more info about the security device? It's possible that it's only a physical deterrent.

There are probably 4 wires in the circut, two that make a circuit, and two that are free wires. You have to find out which ones make a circuit and short those two together, then you can just remove the pad from the player and walk away.

That would take quite a while. Also, they might get suspicious when you get out a multimeter to check which wires are live.
I would recommend running into the store wearing football pads (but, Europe?), grabbing the mp3 player, then tearing/cutting the wire. If anyone tries to stop you from running, blow through them.

I don't think cutting the wires is a realistic option. Anyone here work in one of these electrical stores? Surely you must know of a way around the wires?
I forgot to tell you that next to the mp3 players there's a keypad. I think if you enter a code you can remove the eletrical alarm form the mp3 player.

Re: getting a free mp3 player from the store?
Is it the kind that has a black square attached to the item and it has a wire running to the display?
If so, I believe you can slide something between the security device and item. I also seem to remember someone saying the alarm will go off if you break the contact between the security device and item, so you have to be very careful when sliding something between them.
I have never done this before, I just read about it, so I don't know how likely it is to work, or if it is even the same security device you are talking about.

Re: getting a free mp3 player from the store?
Yes, that's the kind. It has a megnetic panel which allows you to release the mp3 player. But there's a square panel and wire which is attached to the mp3 player to prevent you stealing the player. I guess the company in America which makes the security devices also sells them to the british stores.
I'm gussing if you're going to slide something between the mp3 player and the square panel, you're going to have to be very quick, to prevent the alram going off.

Right, and it needs to be small and thin, like a gift card.

Re: getting a free mp3 player from the store?
But the trouble is that the alarm wire is glued to the mp3 player, so how do you slide the gift card in between?
Anyone know of any other ways I can get a free mp3 player? Any sites giving them away for free?
