what did you/do you want to be when you enter adulthood?
i use to want to be in the airforce. i made an 82 on the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). they told me w/ that score i could do just about what ever i want in the armed services (the average score is like between 30-45) . then i told them about my 2 felonies...
i really want to be an aerospace engineer or something like that now, but i think it requires a college education and it took me 17 years to realize the importance of good grades in school...
so now im really not sure..
has anyone elses dreams been crushed?

Re: what did you/do you want to be when you enter adulthood?
I scored a 94 on the ASVAB and considered going into the Army as a railway operator. That plan eventually fell through, however. I was in high school.
Growing up I always also wanted to own my own business someday. At the moment I partially do, I own a business but still work for someone else.
My dream job? Military sniper. Bad vision, though.

You probably realized that there are other professions whose education/income proportions were significantly higher.
For instance, doctor spends eight years in school, averages $100k to $200k per year probably. Each year therefore means another $12k to $25k in annual income.
A friend of mine who graduated from a six month welding course now earns about $40k per year.
So the educational/income proportions for a doctor compared to other professions isn't exactly great. Top it off with four years of college, and four years of med school, and your student debt is more valuable than a house (or two!)

I'd like to be somewhere high in the IT field.
Designing computers, enhancing software and gadgets, living off of royalties.
I'm making it happen.

Yeh, i remember when i was realy young i wanted to be a marine biologist, then i wanted to be engineer in the air force/domestic companies, then wanted to join the army, but meh.
Been regretting the past year after leaving school, as i shouldve paid more attention. Now days i could do anything i was learning back then, but for some reason i just couldnt actually use that store info to get good grades and not end up dropping out and going to college to be a chef.....
So to all those kiddies out there, stay in school, be nice to your parents whilst they still keep a roof over your head, get good grades, do something you really want to do, make lots of money, and sit back and laugh at all of us who just wanted to be "cool" or try and fit in.

Here in the U.S. becoming a physician requires four years of undergraduate education, another four years of medical school, and then you're essentially an apprentice for a few years following that.
I think you can do the undergrad work in three years, though, not sure about med school.

I've already entered adulthood and there's absolutely no job that I want to do. None of them interest me, therefore I will not do it.

Re: what did you/do you want to be when you enter adulthood?
For a few years I was certain about joining the military - it just seemed valid at that point in my life, I was really fit and liked the idea of getting paid to learn, for instance I could have done something in the Royal Engineers and come out with qualifications. I thought about joining the Royal Marines - probably because I wanted to be someone.
However, I've always been into just about everything, and computers always intrigued me, I was going to apply for University straight away for Computing, but decided against it in the end, worked as a CAD Technician for a year, then a furniture fitter for a year, I was already fed up of work so tried the University path again - Civil Engineering this time, I'm in my second year, hopefully if I make it through I can get a good job out of it.

Re: what did you/do you want to be when you enter adulthood?
My whole life I've wanted to be a gangster. Not the hip-hop ghetto rat kind of gangster, but Italian mafia kinda gangster.
There are many reasons.
Money is the obvious one, but money can be made with a lot of professions.
I'd like to do something illegal, maybe it's just my inner child wanting to rebel against society, but i'd love to do something non-mainstream and underground, but big.
Then there's the whole feeling of being able to do stuff. You don't need to bitch to the cops when someone beats up your friend or screws over your family member. I wouldn't be the Russian mafia kinda beat-you-to-pulp-for-staring guy, but knowing you are able to fight your own wars without relying on authorities is just awesome.
Then there's the whole upper-class thing, but with a twist. You get to ride the fanciest cars, hang with the most beautiful women, but at the same time people respect you more because they are afraid that you might have an invisible army behind you. And even if they all suspect/know you're doing something illegal, deep down they still envy you, no matter how much they claim to dislike you.
And the truth is that like 90% of people only care about your image. If you seem polite, respectful, upper-class etc then they won't worry too much about where your money is coming from.
Then there's that whole 'family' thing. Mafias are always portrayed to be very close. At least the old school respectful ones. Doubt you'd have the same sort of relationship with your coworkers in a normal business.
But of course my view is polluted with the image portrayed by movies/games/books/other media and i don't really wanna do something too immoral. My ethics would probably get in the way every once in a while.

Re: what did you/do you want to be when you enter adulthood?
Originally I was wanting to do engineering but now pretty firmly decided I want to do forestry;
a)Outdoors/practical job
b)Forestry industry always looking for employees etc
c)Even if shit hits the fan etc, it'd be good skills to count on and use
d)Something I enjoy doing, something about forests and wood that I just love ..
etc .. and can get reasonably good pay as a forestry manager (like 60k/year at least depending) ..

Re: what did you/do you want to be when you enter adulthood?
Mycologist.
Don't have to go to school or buy any books, everything I want to know is on the internet.
No boss, no co-workers (yet), eventually a lot of money can be made. The connection that will be made with the higher worlds is priceless.
As for my cover job, I am going to be a slot technician. Once I have the qualifications, I'll be able to get a job and make a decent amount of money.

I am in the application process to join air traffic services. (air traffic controller, etc.) We'll see how that goes, not completely sure I want to do it.
I just wanted a nice 8 hour a day job where I can go home without stress. Thats why I'm thinking of picking up Masonry.

ATC and stress go hand in hand so you may want to rethink that route.
