Re: Elavil (Amitriptyline hydrochloride)
Seriously...you couldn't have simply googled it?
It's an antidepressant. So go ahead and take em. If you enjoy feeling like complete shit and like thoughts of suicide.
These will not get you high like an opiate. Chances are you won't get anything enjoyable out of them and you'll feel fucking terrible.

I did google it but somewhere in there it said it is used to treat chronic pain, so i figured i would ask if it has anypain reducing effectslike an opiate.......but thanks.

Re: Elavil (Amitriptyline hydrochloride)
http://erowid.org
I was prescribed it for a little while, not really any fun. Just made me tired. And they're used as a "pain killer" in small doses (something like 10mg's?), but are nothing like opiates. No euphoria, just chillness. But just look on erowid, there's a decent amount of info on there about it.

Re: Elavil (Amitriptyline hydrochloride)
Shit how many Amitriptyline threads are there?
Just because its got 'Trip' in its name dosen't mean you are going to trip from it.
I take 50mgs twice daily, it will affect your memory for a short time, it takes time to build up in your body, it stops most of your 'sex' intrests, it gives you a dry mouth.
Thats about it.

Just because it has an analgesic effect doesnt mean it gets you high.

Re: Elavil (Amitriptyline hydrochloride)
If you need to sleep. nothing works better. Of course, you won't want to get up in the morning either.

Re: Elavil (Amitriptyline hydrochloride)
It's not used as an analgesic by itself, it's used in conjunction with other, stronger analgesics because it is believed to assist in relieving pain of a neurological nature that is sometimes unaffected by traditional opiate therapy.

Yup, this ^. When I was having a shitload of trouble sleeping and just could not fall asleep I would take like 30-50mgs and that helped me out. One time I took like 10 (100mgs) and slept for something like 15 hours. But like Piles of Crack said, to treat like real pain, they're used along with opiates.

Re: Elavil (Amitriptyline hydrochloride)
I took 3 200mg tablets when I was drinking once.
I don't remember anything but I fell into a rock fireplace and scraped a big chuck of skin off my leg, then I somehow broke my foot.
Sure, it will give you a buzz, but it ain't a good one.
