Default How do I stop being a junkie?

Okay I need some serious replies from seasoned addicts, besides the obvious. Rehab is out of the question.

But any ways for the last 8 months I have used hydrocodone, fenytl, and herion. mainly hyro and the patch though. I have gotten over the withdrawals many times but only after a few days sober do I quickly revert back to my old ways. What would be the best way to distance my mind from the constant thoughts of using???

if physical withdrawals are not a problem for you to deal with and your just dealing with the mental aspect of it you could try to find a substitute activity. Try getting a gym membership and working out.

you could try to find a NA meeting nearby, its not rehab but you can probably find support there... If you dont like one, try to find another. I hear they are all different.

instead of getting the urge to shoot up, try to maintain a positive image of living reality sober and then you'll replace the urge to continue using drugs with an urge to do what's right in your own eyes. that's the best i can give you.

It's hard to pick up the pieces of your life the longer you let it slide. Which (as, I, even as a non-junkie: having dropped the ball ever so long long ago know...) becomes a vicious circle. The more things you leave undone: things that only you can do?

The more they pile up & drive you into hiding. It's an Easy Evil...like this Steppenwolf song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05jhZt1CaZ8

So soft...so inviting. So nowhere, man. Good luck, dudezor.

well, you admitted to being a junkie. thats the first step really. the second step is just as simple. don't get high. yea. sounds stupid. but thats what it comes down too.

at first try a reward system. make it x days till you get high. then try the special occasion trick. eventually you just get sick and tired of waiting for the lackluster high of yesteryear, smarting up a bit to realize you can chase fucking hard as steel only to never relive the glorydays...

its better then smacking your face into rockbottom. which is the alternative.

Dude I hate to break your bubble but if you say Rehab is out of the question than You don't have the stones to quit. That aside when I sobered up I had a few of my closest brothers lock me in my basement with a camping toilet and a radio outside the door so I couldn't break it. matress, no sharp objects etc. I stayed there for 5 days with the door closed and the room starting to reek from the toilet. Sucked ass but I was over the physical when I came out. after that it was NA 5 days a week (narcotics anonymous) and after that it was NA 4 days a week, then 4 days a week, then 2 days a week then 1 day a week...then relapse then all over. Quitting hits a bump after like 1-2 weeks of sobiety where depression hits and you want to hit right back for it and this is where most of us fall. relapse Is part of recovery but you can't let it happen. Rehab is a must whether it be inpatient or outpatient via NA. my sponsor picked up the phone for me and when I wouldnt pick up for his calls he would stop by my home and bang until i opened up. there is help, just get the stones to do it man, no one will force you into recovery nor can they

BTW No reward system...no offense to the guy above me but No. Never reward yourself for not getting high, thats like rewarding yourself for not cheating on your wife. You shouldnt get high period. why reward youself for doing something that you should ALREADY be doing. unless you've been there dont advise someone on something like this

I don't get withdrawals, from OC at least. When I have money, I eat ~100-150+ a day for months, and then I stop, no problem. Sometime I have trouble sleeping, but that's easy to fix and only lasts a couple days. I've cycled through that many times, and I'll usually stop for a week or three, but then ask myself what the point is, and just go right back. It's nice. I consider myself blessed.

What the fuck do you expect from this?

"Hey man, if you wanna stop drugs, all you gotta do is..."

Well, here's one.

Go fucking jump of a bridge you piece of fucking shit junkie scum.

Mate, you're a fucking tit swiveller.

Honestly, if you don't want to do drugs any more, JUST DON'T DO THEM. Call up your dealers when you're drunk and tell them they're dirty black coons that deserve a kick to the teeth. Then you'll have bigger problems to worry about.

Another option is to make it so that physically getting the drug is not viable, pack your shit up and move to somewhere where it will be like a 5 hour drive before you can get some, hell why not camp out in the wilderness.

I HAVE A SIMPLE MIRACLE CURE FOR DRUG ADDICTION, it's unlisted in any scientific literature; but don't worry, I'll back it up with buzzwords and pseudo-science.

PayPal me $5 and I'll share.

If anyone else also knows this cure (HINT: _s__s), pls don't say.

Classic!

But in all seriousness, just taper down. If you can get subs use those. if not then do it with whatever you can get. Just make a schedule and stick to it.

You have to want (pardon the gay expression) in your heart of hearts to quit.

Sometimes, hitting rock bottom is the easiest.

I had no place to live, was slumming from shelter to shelter, had no money, basically no more friends or family, and was sexually assaulted by a black man before I finally came to terms.

I was in the worst place I've ever been. I knew that if I continued, I would end up dead or in prison.

Look inside yourself man, and take the plunge. If I can do it, so can you.

You won't be able to quit until you WANT to quit. Not have to quit, not told you must quit. You really need to want to quit.

I quit heroin after 15 years of use. I did it by smoking smaller amounts and making the time between doses longer. After two weeks I was able to stop.

But, as you know, the thoughts were still there.

I got bad news for you: They will ALWAYS be there. They will get less over time but will never go away totally. In fact, I was watching something the other night about this heroin bust and they showed a half ounce of tar and I got that taste in my mouth and a little longing.

The best thing you can do is to first of all, get away from the area you're in and the people you associated with in doing the drugs. As long as you are around all of that you will be constantly reminded of it and will have a lot harder a time.

I moved 60 miles away from the nearest heroin source and that made all the difference in the world.

Good luck and feel free to email me if you want to talk or know more.

I can only relate through my using cigs.

Because I have no source of the Opiatoids (combo word for both natural & synthetics), so I don't get tempted. Anyways: I've known that I'm all up out of touch with reality since I was 2.

So how could I ever get anywhere if I took an Opie Holiday? Sure, I've been in physical & emo pain most of my life? That's why I don't much freak when I'm out of smokes. They help dull my nerves & that lets me cope sort of. I always go back to the cigs though. Because the pain is never far away.

It helps to keep busy. I don't do TV: why sit there like a mindless junkie when I've got to try to be active so I don't slip farther down... Got to keep moving.

Got to keep swimming or I'll drown.

Some folks use the Opes & lead active lives. Such as medical personal who've got good access to the Medicine. Even they sometimes find that they get too freaky & have to quit. Opes just let them do too much maybe. Some people do do a lot on them.

Some people have good access, keep active & do them for decades. It doesn't work for everybody. Just because they get the quality stuff cheap, doesn't mean it is a good deal.

If you got them legal? Whatever you preferred say. At the drugstore price. Would it still be a deadend to you? I always ask that of Cocaine users? They never answer. Never.

I guess they must just totall cream in their pants at the thought? As, if it was at an untaxed pharmacy price it would be pretty cheap. People are always complaining about the street price. All I've wanted to know is: how would your life be if it was legal & cheaper? Some people must do it because they are rebelling. Because it's "Bad". ;)

i've been there dude. trust me...

and yea as meta said, the thoughts are there. the fucked up part is the dreams. they'll stop eventually. but that doesn't mean you won't find yourself day dreaming about being in a nod somewhere down the line. hopefully after getting hooked once you smarten the fuck up a bit to notice what the hells going on when you use to prevent it from happening again. if you can't realize using opiates after having a problem once upon a time with them is playing with fire when your soaked in gasoline, then obviously you shouldn't...

Like anything you do that gives you Big Rewards? You lay down neural pathways, habits & easy ways to spend your time. Eg: Simple ways to go that don't take extra thought.

Way easier than having to think your way through difficulties.

Opiatoids being like the bodies own Endorphins? I am sort of an "Endorphin Junkie". As in: I recall terrible things that I've been through or am. Then I swear & feel hopeless.

Then *BANG!!!*...instantly I can hardly recall what only seconds before totally bummed me out. I go from suicidal to feeling...*FEELING EXTRA FINE!!!*. I can't even recall more than in the vaguest way what the terrible shit was.

Instead of being magnified 1000x...it is minimized by a 1000x. I am unable to swear or feel bad...until the next time.

Totally Excellent.

Totally Stupid. I can't even recall but in the vaguest way that I'm going to cycle through the bluest suicidal blues until...instantly/naturally/chemically I'm going to feel fine. I wonder: is this technique too weird for an addict to do a substitution with? As I say I've been doing this for years, but I hardly know I do it. It sure works though. ;)

Relinquishing junk. Stage One: preparation. For this you will need: one room which you will not leave; one mattress; tomato soup, ten tins of; mushroom soup, eight tins of, for consumption cold; ice cream, vanilla, one large tub of; Magnesia, Milk of, one bottle; paracetamol; mouth wash; vitamins; mineral water; Lucozade; pornography; one bucket for urine, one for feces, and one for vomitus; one television; and one bottle of Valium, which I have already procured, from my mother, who is, in her own domestic and socially acceptable way, also a drug addict

I almost stopped reading there. The definition 'opioids' encompasses all endogenous, natural, derived, and fully synthetics.
