So I can't seem to find help...
With my opioid addiction. I live in a bum-fuck town and there is no clinic anywhere near. I talked to my insurance company about finding a doctor who prescribes suboxone, and they never call me back. It's been almost 2 weeks of us calling both them and the doctor's office and getting no news. They honestly don't give two shits.
So I'm thinking of options. I can't cold turkey because I work 5 days a week and go to school 4 a week. I can't interrupt my schedule for too long, and a detox or inpatient rehab would have me slammed. I'm currently running low on funds so I know withdrawal is just around the corner.
I'm going to my GP tomorrow to talk about my benzo script not working because of the high anxiety. I'm wondering if I should tell him about my opioid addiction, and if he could refer me to someone, or if this could lead to bigger problems?
It'd be cool if they could just get me into the suboxone doctor and get me some fucking help. :(
I've been able to detox myself before during breaks from school/work where I have nothing to do with no problems. But now that I'm busy 24/7 I can't.

Re: So I can't seem to find help...
Most hospitals have a rehab clinic in them. Call local hospitals, [or hospital, you did say it was a bum-fuck town] see what they offer. If nothing else they should be able to tell you where you can go. And if they can't do anything they're a failure of a hospital.

You are aware that a Suboxone doctor is going to set you back a few bucks...right? Not saying it might not be worth it given I don't know the details of your situation but if you're not already, be prepared to have a few hundred on hand...

Well aware of this, and well prepared for it. My situation is shooting up oxycodone, morphine, or rarely heroin 2-3 times a day. I've been hooked for 2 years and my dose has been a steady 100+ mgs a day of oxy. I've been also taking Ativan to sleep and shooting speed so I don't nod. Let's just say the Suboxone doctor can't be too expensive compared to my habit now.
As for the hospital thing SEN D-F mentioned, I was told they may Baker Act me by someone who used to work as a nurse.
"The Baker Act allows for involuntary examination (what some call emergency or involuntary commitment). It can be initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, or mental health professionals. There must be evidence that the person a) has a mental illness (as defined in the Baker Act) and b) is a harm to self, harm to others, or self neglectful (as defined in the Baker Act). Examinations may last up to 72 hours and occur in 100+ Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF; originally Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, or HRS) designated receiving facilities statewide.
There are many possible outcomes following examination of the patient. This includes the release of the individual to the community (or other community placement), a petition for involuntary inpatient placement (what some call civil commitment), involuntary outpatient placement (what some call outpatient commitment or assisted treatment orders), or voluntary treatment (if the person is competent to consent to voluntary treatment and consents to voluntary treatment). The involuntary outpatient placement language in the Baker Act took effect in 2005."
I'm really just wondering if I should tell my doc. I don't want to lose my benzo script. My drug abuse is a by product of severe anxiety and depression. Without being high I won't leave my house most of the time.

Re: So I can't seem to find help...
I feel for you duder, I just got out of rehab myself but I'm not doing so well....
It sucks that you don't have any resources. My town is a veritable goldmine for its' size, but I suppose that is because of our ridiculously prevalent drug problem. Are there any places within a (realistic) drive of you that you could check out?? It could prove possible to go drive a ways for a suboxone script, after all it's not like daily methadone dosing. Failing anything at all, (And I know this is SO SO SO much easier said than done), just try to cut down. Try to buy some sub on the street instead of your DOC. Cut out the speed. Find what holds you longest for cheapest and DON'T take a lot. An oxy 80 for me can mean a brief happiness then full-on sickness within 12 hours, or taken in pieces, orally, can hold me for more than 24 hours. A half gram of good dope is like the equivalent of 3 80's (and costs 10$ more than ONE here...), but again can either mean a high 24 hours or 2+ days of 'maintenance' dosing.
I can't say I truly ever managed to taper with these suggestions or anything but I HAVE frequently stretched my resources and gotten a lot of precious, precious non-sick time.
Don't tell your doctor. If you literally see no way out, then maybe tell him later on.... but telling him 'just cuz' will jeapordize your medical chart, script, and relationship with him/her. I know some doctors are cool, but really the odds are against you on this one.
Last thing, that I tell everyone (and is kind of my issue right now). Suboxone is a good thing for a failing addict, and can/will help you. However, especially after taking it for a while, it has a strangely nasty withdrawal. Now, it is not the kind of withdrawal where you're shitting puking and dying on the floor for days, but unfortunately it lasts forever. General malaise, depression, chills and INSOMNIA for weeks after. Definitely taper as much as possible.... I've always jumped above 2mg/24hr so I suppose if you tried hard enough and got your taper to like 1/2mg a day, it may be easier.

I've tried tapering myself. Can't do it, I just want to get higher and higher which is very dangerous to myself. Good thing my dealer is a very good friend who doesn't mind selling me a pill at once if I'm running low on funds. There is a Sub doctor 20 minutes from where I live so that's not a huge deal, it's just getting my insurance to cover it. It makes no sense, I have insurance THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT. It's not like it's some shitty thing, it's Blue Cross Blue Shield and they fucking ignore my problems. I've even told them about suicidal thoughts, and that fact I'm an IV user. Seems like they'd maybe want to help me out right? Maybe call me back??

Different method this time than cold turkey. Cold turkey worked for months until I started a job where I am physically pushed to the limit, and going to college full-time. The stress got to me. I don't handle stress normally, it manifests itself as insomnia and physical pain.
Weak minded? Ever wonder why most junkies are either dead or hooked for life? It's tough as hell to quit. I'd like to see you shoot up daily and quit easily.

Get off your high horse. While I think that you do have to honestly WANT to get clean to be successful, it's still no picnic. Never put someone down until you've been through their exact situation.

If you haven't had an opiate addiction, don't post here telling the guy he's weak.

Re: So I can't seem to find help...
you still have money, and are just avoiding impending brokeness [a shitty reason to wanna quit, but lets not extinguish your hope]...
dude you shoot the shit, so, as crazy as it sounds, taper down shooting the shit, until you think you might be ballsy enough to put down the needle and tell it to fuck off. once your body goes OMZG! NO OPIATES, you should of been at a point where instead of being bedriddenly flu-stricken, your just uncomfortabley trying not to get high. welcome to reality bud.
