Changing my ADHD Script
On Concerta at the moment, been on it for a long time. It makes me feel light-headed, nauseas, dizzy, all that bad stuff. How can I change it to amphetamines? They're effective in the sense that they restore dopamine, and I'd be able to abuse them out of school. I basically need to convince my parents, they'll talk to the psychiatrist.
What reasoning should I use that proves that amps > others?

Re: Changing my ADHD Script
Just exaggerate the side effects a bit, and don't suggest anything specific "mom, can I get dexedrine instead of this" just screams "abuse" say it isn't working right and you're getting fucked up side effects and want to try something different. If they put you on some other bullshit just rinse and repeat until you get what you want.

Re: Changing my ADHD Script
Are your parents drug naive? If they are, just do what dude above me said and bitch about the side effects-- an average parent who doesn't assume everything their kid says or does has to do with scoring dope is not going to conclude that you're whining about your prescribed Concerta in order to get amphetamines to get spun with.
Are you not able to talk to this psychiatrist yourself? If you are at all, tell him the same thing about the side-effects, and say how you've got a friend who also has ADHD that was taking Concerta with ill effects who was just recently switched to this new medicine called Vyvanse-- it's lisdexamphetamine, which is converted into dextroamphetamine in the body, and it's a big hit with ADD/ADHD prescriptions now because Shire is giving every psychiatrist and their brother reach-arounds to script the shit because they're losing the patent on Adderall XR in the first quarter of 2009. Most doctors also consider Vyvanse non-abusable, so I doubt it'll throw up any red flags at all. My psychiatrist just recently tried to convince me to consider a switch to Vyvanse from 40 mg of Adderall IR, and I got out of it by pointing out that there aren't any generics for the shit and that my Adderall only costs me $5 a month.
You can also complain that the Concerta makes you feel irritable or jittery-- it's a common side-effect that is more prevalent with the methylphenidate formulations than with the various amphetamine salts.
If you've got an anti-amp doctor, though, you're probably up shit creek.

Thats news to me, I had no idea Adderall was losing the XR patent in 2009. I can only imagine the generics that are already jumping on this

Re: Changing my ADHD Script
just convince them that the concerta has far too many adverse reactions for too little benefit when there are much more efficient drugs with fewer side effects (if any) that you've recently been lucky enough to try
also it may even save your parents some money for the scripts in the long run depending on what kind of insurance if any etc you have
there's tons of angles to hit upon here, pick a few, do the proper research so you know exactly what the fuck you're talking about and handle your shit from there

Yeah, Shire doesn't even manufacture the "name brand" Adderall anymore; Barr makes both the name-brand and one of the generics. Shire originally had a goal to market Vyvanse to something like 75% of the ADD/ADHD "population" but so far it doesn't seem like it's as big of a hit as they thought it would be.
And I know for sure that Barr is first in line to make the generics, but others can certainly follow. As it is, I know that CorePharma and Sandoz also manufacture generic Adderall. I might be forgetting one or two also, for all I know.
