Default Bread

Bread is a staple food, or at least it used to be.

Bread is so fucking fantastic but these days it seems that all people know of is this pre- packaged sliced bread shit.

...there missing out on so much.

My dads italian and he makes the best fucking bread, awesome with some balsamic, some pesto or some cheese.

i know theres other shit not just italian, amost every culinary culture has there own interpretation.

in my opinion that sliced sht in the supermarket isnt real authentic bread, i admit it has its place, but i feel sorry for those who think their daily bread finishes there.

Well, most supermarkets do have their own bakery in them now. It's easy to find decent bread.

I don't think so. The supermarket that I go to (coles) seems to do white fluff bread in different shapes. Even the chain bakeries here (Brumbys and Baker's Delight) don't do proper artisan type bread.

I go to two tiny bakeries and a german smallgoods place and get bread from there. Proper thick crusted loaves with caraway, walnuts, proper dark rye, sourdough, multigrain, olives, as well as the usual white loaf.

I think it's Australia, there's no real mainstream demand for proper bread here as yet.

sorry i wasnt communicating my point effectivly, or you wernt listening properly.

i realise that when i said "supermarket bread" it means more than pre-packaged sliced bread.

i was refering to the branding mass produced sliced bread.

im SURE you knew this but were jsut nit picking my post to be a fuckwit

Given your awful standard of English, I'd say the former.

Maybe you're not lucky where you live but the bakeries and supermarket bakeries that bake their own goods are generally really good around here. You can find all sorts of different styles, grains used, gourmet styling etc. Homemade bread can be good, yes, it's not the be all, end all of breadmaking though.

There is plenty of decent bread being made out there.

It's like people who jump on the bandwagon about fast food burgers tasting crap. Taste wise (they may be salty, bad for you, etc) they're not awful, they're just not as good as what you can put together instead.

Even on the poorer side of town, our chain supermarkets sell good crusty French bread. I think it IS just where you live. Don't get too down though, real bread is coming back in to style in the USA, and I hope Australia as well.

Yeah, most Americans think that a French Baguette is the latest and greatest culinary creation. It's sad.

Exclamation Re: Bread

I love good bread. On its own or as a vessel for other eatables, nothing beats the aroma and texture of a nice chunk of bread.

There's just no comparison between a proper bakery bread and a supermarket bakery bread. Supermarket baguette looks deflated and small, hard rather than crusty, and no flavour or aroma.

There's a chain called Cobb's, they have good rolls and buns. Their actual bread isn't too special though.
