Removing ("Bleaching") ink from Dollar Bills
Totse, please help me out.
I have been researching this for a long time but have never found a chemical that can remove the ink from $1 and $5 bills (not the new 5's). Anyways, supposedly the ink can be bleached off. I tried Clorox and some other chemicals and they definitely did not work.
1) Is this still possible with the inks used on these more recently made bills? Keep in mind that ones and fives don't have color changing ink or many security features on them.
2) What what what can I use???
Anyone had success with this in the past? I pretty much have all the other steps figured out.
this is hypothetical of course...

Re: Removing ("Bleaching") ink from Dollar Bills
To reprint cheap bills ($1) with the image of expensive bills ($100) so that your counterfeits can have the same feel as real money as well as pass counterfeit pen tests.
Seriously, are you dense?
I've heard tell of people doing this, somehow, but I have no idea if it's one of those notions that sprang into popular culture from some goddamned book from the '70's or something. It probably is. I'd be willing to wager that anything that could destroy the ink on a dollar bill (which is magnetic, by the way - true fact!) would also destroy the paper.

Re: Removing ("Bleaching") ink from Dollar Bills
In one of the compilation threads here on Totse it is recommended that you use a mixture of bleach and acetone to remove the ink from bills. This does work, to an extent, but requires many soakings and much scrubbing. Also, after the ink is removed the bill that I observed did NOT pass the pen test, for too much of the outer layer had been removed.
The $1 bill was probably a new one but that is uncertain because it had already been bleached by the time the bleacher had thought to check.
The bleacher aforementioned wished to try older releases of currency but they have not yet gotten around to it. If you cannot find old $1 bills for some reason then you may try looking on ebay for $2 bills. (Or at a bank, if you don't mind being on camera.) Many of them are old but they're still only worth $2 dollars.
Dunno if this helps, but I'm throwing it out there in any event.

I don't think you are understanding what Fate's trying to say.
A method such as this is proved to be quite challenging and risky, if at all plausible. I'm sure it will work somewhat, but passing the pen test would be difficult. With as many security features on the denominations of U.S dollars, perfecting the process I would assume to be damn near impossible. The solution would most likely ruin the bill itself.

Re: Removing ("Bleaching") ink from Dollar Bills
in a completely hypothetical sense, instead of doing individual bills, you could buy sheets of money from a mint for "wallpaper" and take the 3x10 sheets of 1's, wash the ink out, and then reprint it as a 3x10sheet of 100's. it costs probably 5-10 dollars for a sheet of 30, so for one sheet, initial minuminum input of money would be setup fees, 40 per sheet, with an output of 2960 per sheet put in
