On faithfulness
Imagine that you have a special someone in your life that you love with all your heart. A husband or a wife.
Suppose one day someone who's better comes along, someone who's better looking, smarter, funnier, sexier, younger, MORE COMPATIBLE with you..etc all that good stuff. Would you ditch the current partner and go for the new person?
Personally I would. It doesn't make sense to commit to someone when there's another person out there that you know connects better with you than your current partner.
I hope I am making sense.

Re: On faithfulness
I hope that happens. Then that person ditches you. And the original person won't take you back. Then you die alone.

Re: On faithfulness
I'd have to do a risk-benefit analysis. The only problems would be that
a) I get noticed as being an unfaithful jerk and treated badly because of it
b) The more desirable person finds someone better than I am
c) The relationship fails and I end up alone
d) Money/legal problems leaving a spouse.
All is fair in love and war, I wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of a situation that could work out in my favour. It all depends on whether the potential benefit is worth taking the risk for.

I would not. If you are committed to someone and truly love them, they ARE the best person for you.
If you do not care for them, do not get into a committed relationship with them, merely because there is nothing better around.
Sure, slag about or bang away like an armed policeman whilst waiting for that special someone, but don't lower your standards merely because there is nothing better.

Re: On faithfulness
The problem isn't "This new person is perfect for me, should I leave the person I love for him/her".
The problem is "I am having such strong feelings for someone else. I need to look at the relationship I am in and decide if I am in it 100%. B/c if not, that is unfair to the person I am with and to myself".

I didn't "bitch" at people who "tried to help me". They weren't trying to hlep me at all, if they had, they would be giving me behavioural tips. But they weren't. They were merely giving me lectures.

So, you're like with your soul mate (A), and an A+ comes along...I'de say the fact that you have a past with A would lead you to favour them more.

Re: On faithfulness
If I was married I'd like to think I wouldn't.
I'd also not immediately ditch anyone I was with in a long term relationship, it'd be rather unfair. I'm pragmatic, I'd have to see how I felt at the time.

Maybe if you weren't so ugly (and asian), you'd find a man who likes you for who you are.

Re: On faithfulness
I would never trust you as a person. One, you dream of being a prostitute/golddigger (same thing) And you would ditch someone just because you think your more compatible with someone else. What kind of friend/girlfriend would you ever measure up to be. Its not like you have money or live on your own. And i dont even know if your hot. What do you have going for you? Personality? i dont think so.

This.
When you're in love, there's no "better". You already have the best.

I don't know about that. Sure, if you love someone they might be the best for you at that time, but then someone who is in every way better comes along. If you're dealing with a highly romanticised, highly media influenced view of love, then sure, what you're saying is probably accurate.
But just because you love someone doesn't mean they're the best.
And just because they're the best doesn't mean you'll love them.
Because at the end of the day, they're just a person, just as fallable as anyone else, and just as changing as anyone else. Who you love today you might not love tomorrow. That's all I'm trying to say. So the idea of love as this once only miraculous event (which it might feel like) I think is flawed in a lot of basic ways. Just look at the divorce rate, and most of those people were probably in love when they got married.
If loving someone meant they were the best, it would mean that love would last at least your lifetime, or close to it. Because if you love them and they love you, then you're the best for each other and surely that means you shouldn't live apart from one another.
So I don't think that when you're in love you already have the best. You have something that you love, sure, and this doesn't necessarily justify ditching them when Partner v2.0 comes along, but I just cannnot agree.

A promise is a promise. You're fucking married, deal with it.
Though I do think that it is possible to be in love with more than one person.

Re: On faithfulness
I can understand some of the New Arrival and Accolate's responses posts in this thread, but how can some of you Regulars not have well recognised WAN as being nothing more than a TROLL here on &totse?
A little, ugly 12 y/o boy troll at that.
Shame on you, and shame on me as well for tossing yet one more crumb under the bridge.
Let this stop... NOW !!!

Love is not a business contract. You don't leave because someone makes you a better offer.
Also, why does WAN still get serious responses?

Re: On faithfulness
Umm, if you're truly in love with someone, someone better wont come along, because the best person is the person you're already with.
Besides, you can't tell someone is "more compatiable" with you from meeting them and deciding it, it takes a long time to "know someone".

That's because my topic is debate-worthy.
It doesn't matter if i am a troll, as long as (some of) my posts are quality, people will responde.

Re: On faithfulness
It's pretty simple, people do this all the time for instant gratification. They have loved someone for years and still enjoy them greatly, but meet someone slightly better for 2 weeks and suddenly think they are better. Never do they take long-term considerations into play. Likely you had the same exciting feelings at first with your current partner and these new, exciting feelings for this new person would eventually fade a bit too. People really underestimate how hard it is to love and enjoy someone in the long-run, are you willing to risk what you've already found for something that is very unlikely to work out in the long haul? Not I.
