I've been prescribed Lyrica for GAD, and it's absolutely great. However it's a patented medication (one months supply runs about €200, thank god I don't have to pay that being in the Socialist Republic of Ireland), and it's only available in Gelatine Capsule form, in accordance with Pfizer's general retardedness.

I'm vegetarian, so I need to empty the capsules onto something, then lick up the powder. Compared to Prozac, it's not too bad, but I was wondering, should I just like pour out a months supply and mix with chocolate or something, and make lyrica candy? I'm clueless what to do.

I've been on Lyrica one and a half days. So far the results have been a complete and sudden lack of anxiety. Completely crazy I know, but they work. Lyrica is better than a benzo in a lot of ways, and is insanely easy to get prescribed. I actually asked my psych about phenytoin for anxiety, bit he must've assumed I meant pregabalin, and I think he wrote Lyrica on the script. Which is great!

The negative effects are a general retardedness, like a dull mental cloak is sitting on my mind. It's not too bad, and I assume I'll get over it. For me it's worth it, I have a genuine need for anti-anxiety drugs and was self-prescribing benzos, phenergan and alcohol to treat it.

I also notice some hostility and short-temper, but I think that is due more to Effexor than Lyrica. I go to a psychiatrist and a GP, the GP gives me Sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral), the psych gives me Effexor. I work it this way because I need to change meds every few months otherwise I get depressed. So I'm just finished 3 months of Sertraline, now I'm back on Effexor.

The capsule idea is great, but the lyrica capsules are really tiny. I don't think I can measure the powder accurately enough. I assume a mixture would average out the powder and make a more exact dose possible.

I'm vegetarian for ethical reasons, which is ironic as I lost my morality a while ago and I kill animals often. Nonetheless eating gelcaps would be just unbearable for me, it's too much a mental problem.

My psych is muslim, and is sympathetic to my concerns. He didn't know about gelatine. However there are no alternatives on the market. I switched from prozac (usually in capsule) to sertraline, and Effexor XL to Effexor, in order to avoid capsules. However thanks to the big giant brains at Pfizer that's not an option for me.

EDIT: I can't get vegcaps in the size I need (75mg doses) so I'm thinking I need to put the Lyrica in a bowl, then add more filler, then fill the capsules with that. Would this work?
