Nuvaring... epic plan backfire >:(
Okay, all the females of Totse, I know you're out there, has anyone had a similar experience to this:
I put the nuvaring in on the first day of my period, only a few hours after it started. So far so good. Well, aside from being slightly nauseous the first day I had no side effects. I went about my usual menstrual routine of verbally lashing out at anyone who so much as looked at me wrong or touched me for the usual four or so days. Then, it started to taper off into the yucky leftover stuff, kind of brownish. That kept up for another four days and seemed to be going away, until I got home from vacation. Now, for the past three days all hell has been breaking loose... it's been increasing, and getting redder like an actual period. Today it was pink like when I just start my period. Effing grand...
And now I have light cramps too. Sweet.
Oh, and also, the reason why I am so about this is the fact that I actually started the nuvaring was to be able to skip my periods. (Kind of ironic, ehh?) This is because they make me a right pain to live with, they are a right pain to live with, and the closest thing I can compare the cramping to is the imagined feeling of having a cheese grater slowly dragged across my uterine walls. It was also affecting my school performance, and that is something I cannot, will not, take chances with.
I want to know, is there any way to kind of trigger your body to stop bleeding, or could this possibly just be one of those nasty little side effects the company doesn't tell you about?

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
Well, no, but it can be used to skip your period, just like taking packs of birth control pills back to back without the placebo pills. You just take it out when you're supposed to and chuck another one in.

I'm almost certain that there will be increased bleeding for your first period when you use something like nuvaring,

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
Birth Control can really fuck up a girls body lol
My girlfriend tried the patch everything was fine a fist but then one day out the blue she was getting sick as shit and ended up blacking out. Took the patch off and felt fine after.
Maybe you should talk to a doctor about whats going on and see if another birth control method is better for you.

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
It's very possible that this particular BC doesn't suit you at all. If it starts making you feel worse - switch. I would ask to try Seasonale or the shot :)

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
stop using it! if it's making you have cramps and bleed constantly, it's clearly not the best BC option for you.
Which other types of BC have you tried? Any aversion to the pill? I'm finding that the pill works fine for me - no side effects at all.

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
ask your doctor about the pill - there's a reason it's so popular. if one type doesn't work, don't hesitate to ask for a different type, there's quite a few out there.
i'm on yasmin, and it's a bit expensive here, but i can skip periods without issue, and my periods aren't as heavy.
hasn't done much for cramps though - mine are still rather crippling. i take naprogesic and nurofen as soon as i start getting cramps, then pretty much every 6 hours until they stop.
edit:
have you considered implanon? it's a little implant thing they stick in your arm - it lasts 3 months i think, but the side effects vary person to person. if you're concerned you'll forget the pill and stuff, it might be an option. i've heard from some people that they don't get their period the entire time.

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
Well, actually i have thought about that... i REALLY don't want any more scars on my arms, and if it does turn me into a psychotic raging hormonally fueled sea cow, then it's really a pain to have them take it out again :( And besides, I generally don't let people cut me open voluntarily unless it's to save my life...
Oh, and it's three years, not three months (that's the depo shot )
And yes, I'm still the proud owner of a blood belching vagina, as one of my friends so tastefully put it.

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
When I was on Nuva I fucking loveddd it. I didn't get any bleeding whatsoever. It was so good. And it made my skin clear and my tits bigger.
I stopped though because it was weird having a thing in my vag all the time.
I had a similar thing happen to me when I started on Depo. About a month and a half in I started spotting about once a day. After about two weeks of that I stated bleed so fucking frequently, like I was on my period and it was really fucking heavy.
It was a bitch and a half.

just go for the pill then, simple and effective.
every single one of my girl friends (and myself) are on the pill. it works. and skipping periods is really easy (i did it for about 4 months going around europe)

Re: Nuvaring- Not So good After All
I used the nuvaring for over a year and it worked pretty goddamn amazing for me. I used to cycle also so 1 period every 3 months.
I have no idea what you're doing wrong or why it's affecting you badly but did you put the ring in immediately after you took out the last one or is this the first time you've ever used nuvaring? If it is the first time, it's not going to immediately stop your period, but if you decide to continue using it and want to cycle you can put the next one in immediately and you will skip your period.
You should probably get some more information from a doctor on cycling and your situation.
