Default Albert Ellis and Homosexuality

Ok, so a guy named Albert Ellis wrote a book about, and was one of the founding fathers of rational emotional behavior therapy. Anyways he believes homosexuality is biological in some cases and (a large portion) psychological in others. In one of his therapy sessions, a "homosexual" guy comes to him, who has been having sex with men largely his whole life and says he wants to get married to a woman. Albert Ellis traces back to many points in this mans life where he had difficult times with woman and associated with them some form of pain, and that it's easier to get men. This guy reported having little to no attraction to women, however, he was suppose to get physically intimate with a woman and basically see what happens...see if his "fear" of woman was irrational and in challenging it realize that it was irrational and thus get over it and be attracted to women. This example ended with the homosexual guy enjoying having sex with this woman and having sex with a few other woman and eventually getting married (to a woman).

So, what do you guys think of this? You think it's the equivalent to "gay-to-straight.com", where priests magically "cure" homosexuals? Think it's bullshit and that no man can lose attraction to women no matter how much emotional abuse he receives from women?

Groovy.
Default Re: Albert Ellis and Homosexuality

I think it might be a reason for some cases of homosexuality, but not for others.

Default Re: Albert Ellis and Homosexuality

I think it's mostly a sort of (pre-)natal thing, or at least determined by a fairly young age. In fewer cases, there might be a more significant social or psychological cause, like maybe child-rape or whatever screwing with people psychologically, or those sorts of things. They would be in the minority, though. I don't actually know any gay people like that.
