First off, I apologize if these questions have been answered already. I searched the forum but couldn't find any clear answers.

Okay, I've always been highly interested in trying psychedelics/hallucinogens but haven't ever been able to find anything, as I live in a very small rural town. A few buddies of mine want to try some salvia and we know where to get it, so we're going to try it this weekend. This wouldn't by any means be any of our first experiences with drugs, but all of our first times with something like this. we plan to hit it two at a time, so the other two can act as sitters. I've done some research, but couldn't find any clear answers to a few questions.

1. Could you use the same kind of pipe/bong that you would for pot? Or do you need something special?

2. Would I need a jet lighter, or would a zippo do it?

3. Is there anything I should know about the actual smoking process? I figured you'd just hit it like weed.

4. I've got a general idea of what to expect, but what happened to ya'll personally?

2) regular lighters work fine if you keep the flame going
3) take massive rip, hold in for AT LEAST 20 seconds and repeat. ignore the chills and the "rushing" sweaty feeling and keep hitting.


4) I've only ever broken through twice. The first time I was ashing my bowl thinking nothing was happening but I heard someone say, "give him a short, sharp shock" from Pink Floyd's Us and Them. I looked to see where the voice was coming from and I was laying on a hospital bed with doctors standing around me, one holding a defibrillator. I knew he was going to shock me so I ran out of the room and some lady took me down the hallway and took me into a storage closet. She told me she could show me all the answers I'd been seeking and proceeded in turning on a strange machine that appeared. The machine was very stereotypical like a cartoon machine with pistons, gears and levers and once the machine started, I was back in my buddy's bedroom I started at. I thought it was over but all of a sudden I heard the humming of the machine and the walls started to compress and crush me into them like a trash compactor. This sounds scary but I was laughing uncontrollably. While being "crushed" against the wall it turned into a painting of the English countryside with grassy hills, yellow flowers and castles in the distance. The compression pushed me through the wall into the painting [it was soooooo beautiful] and I once again returned to the room where I spent the next 10 minutes or so in a daze and then came good.

The second attempt was an outdoor trip I can't remember much of, unfortunately, but it came down to rolling around in the dirt drooling all over myself while the fallen dead leaves were trying to tell me something I can't remember.

The cool thing about salvia is that it is Earth shattering and unbelievably intense but you have no consciousness to say that the world you find yourself in isn't right, so you think everything is normal until you snap out of it 20 min later and go, "Whaaaaa!?!?!?!"

bongs are preferable, but i have broken through on a spoon pipe... it is very harsh, your lungs are going to feel like they are on fire for the 30-40 seconds you have to hold it for... but if you break through your lungs will be the farthest thing from your mind...

i have broken through with a zippo and a regular bic... just make sure ot hold the flame on it the entire time.

hold the flame to it until theres nothing left burning if your not using a torch lighter... if you are the extra heat wont really require you to torch it as long..

but what happened to ya'll personally?

1st time... i was thrown into a white abyss, existed without a body, and my friends bed morphed into a giant red and white circus tent... there was nothing left left of reality, just the abyss and the tent..

2nd time... thrown into the abyss again, this time instead of a cricus tent i was without a body viewing these infinitly stretching system of interconnected triangles made of candy canes and people....

3rd and 4th time... didnt break through, just got weird gravity shifts...

5th time... thought i was in a fucked up tv setup while camping with my friends, everything seemed to be like a tv set... then i was on some fucked up game show/intervention type deal which i belived was a final judgment of sorts, and i belived i had died... a stair case was there and i felt i should walk up it...

turned out the stair case was directly above a camp fire that i put my foot into before being tackeled out of it... there was no pain from this despite the 4 small 2nd degree burns i recieved...

its not exactly fun, its far from boring but not very fun... having reality ripped off the hinges is not everyones cup of tea... and if you learn anything from this, let it be a lesson in respecting psychs, it is not like any other psych so dont let it discourage you from trying things like mushrooms or lsd if the experience isn't exactly fun or enjoyable...

eh i havent mentioned it in a few weeks...

i didnt really try to go very in depth into it, if they want they can look back through my post and read the detailed version but he asked for experiences, i have done it 5 times and that was probably the craziest of them... Its strange i seemed closer to reality with that trip than my first couple, at points i had some visual sense of the world around me even if i was a bit disoriented and then that was lost completly... personally i would rather exist in the void, nothing around you, and nothing to freak out about.... the first trips i just existed, no real thoughts of being alive or dead i just was.... the last one i thought i had died, but it really wasn't a terrifying prospect, i came to terms with it quickly.... its also the closest ive even been to seriously hurting myself on a drug, im normally in a great deal of control, but with salvia that is something you give up about 30 seconds after you hit the bong....

true that. it's a very poweful drug. one of my friends had a nervous breakdown on a salvia trip that he said lasted 2 hours. all we would do is sit there and jab his fingers into his eye sockets because he said he thought there was something behind his eye. it's interesting because he doesn't touch drugs anymore besides beer and cigarettes.

30 secs....not 3...you'll only get mild effects if you just hold it for three and exhale even if you continue to take more puffs...

And holy fuck, this this such a commonly asked question...5 steps to a successful trip:

1) Smoke it in a bong (or pipe, preferably bong)

2) Hold the lighter (torch or bic will both work) over the salvia for the entire time you're hitting the bong.

3) Hold the toke for thirty seconds (count in your head, or get someone to count for you) you only need one (take a second if you can, I doubt you will)

4) Get someone to take the bong from you, in a few seconds it'll probably cease to exist.

5) Salvia is NOT a party drug

I hope you meant to write 30 seconds cause if not you're fuckin' completely mistaken. A jet lighter is probably best but I've broken through every time i packed a decent bowl and I never used one, so I dunno. A jet lighter would definitely make you get the most out of it though.
