Default poppy seed tea

quick newb question.

the recipes on erowid talk about using 5-15 seeds. When i bought poppy seeds they are tiny dots and you would think you would need more than 5-15.

Are these not the right kind? A friend claims the small ones can be used.

1.5 kilos is what i used.
And i got some unprocessed Indian brand, with bits of the poppy straw still clearly present.

I drank 2/3 before feeling so nauseous then i passed out.

Probably confusing poppy heads with poppy seeds. That's a good number of heads to use, not seeds.

As said, they meant pods.

I used to use lot of seed tea, and don't underestimate it. Get it from a bulk store, and start of with 700-800 grams of seeds. Lots of places say less, but even with no tolerance I'd need that much, and so do people I introduce to it.

Eventually got up to over 2kg, and found it too much work for the benefit.

You put the seeds in a large container (4L maybe) and then fill with enough water to cover the seeds well, but not so much that you couldn't drink it all. If you add decent amount of lemon juice extract it seems towork better, but not everyone agrees and it makes it taste slightly worse.

The water should be just under warm. Not cold, it's not as efficient, but heat will destroy the molecules you want. Kind of cool water, the kind you'd get when you turn on the cold tap but before it reaally cools down.

Let it sit for 0.5-2 hours, shaking periodically (ideally every 5mins or so). The longer you let it sit, the more opiates you dissolve, but also fats and oils and other nasty tasting stuff, so it's personal preference.

Strain out the liquid you can from the container, and then put the rest of the seeds in a clean thin sock (like a dress sock) or some panty hose, before squeezing all of the liquid you can out of the seeds. They soak up a lot of viable tea.

You can repeat the process with the same seeds for a much lessened yield. I usually never do.

You have options now. Let it sit in a dark place with good circulation, and over a while the amount of water will lessen, meaning less bitter tea to drink. But I find that lowers potency and takes too long. Your best bet is to just down it all as fast as you can manage and consider the taste the price you pay, or add juice powder and do the same but with shitty tasting kool-aid poppy tea, which I find worse.

Damn you people. I can't buy bulk poppies around here. I've been able to work a bag or two out of a bakery but other than that it isn't possible. I've thought about ordering off the interwebs but I don't see alot of point in it.

If you're going to order online, you'd best go with pods.

Try going to a local bakery and asking if you could order poppy seeds through them, from their supplier, because you're trying to start up a mediterranean/eastern-style cafe. It could even work. :p

I mean, if they buy it and you pay them for it, it's win-win! You might not even need a story, just ask if they'd order bulk for you at a discount because you'd be buying kilos instead of 50-100g packets.

But you normally buy from bulk food stores or eastern food stores because the seeds are washed less well, thus more opiates.

You have no bulk/eastern/etc kind of store at all?

Try going to arts+crafts stores and looking for poppy plants for 'flower arrangements'. ;)

It worked for a friend but not for me.

It's illegal here to distribute in stores. If there are some stores I haven't found them yet. Been to random small stories, 'oriental shops' and bulk food places and found nothing.

Dude, the Ether must suck to live in.

I'll mail you seeds in a package. MSN me at [inserttotseusername]@gmail.com

I'm sure we could work out some way to get it done. If you don't want to pay up front, I don't mind, they're dirt cheap here so I don't lose much if you rip me off.

I almost always appear offline, so msg me anyway if I am.

I've had much better results from using cold water.

How cold? Because I've heard that dsfrom frien too, but I never used water that's run to its coldest. Water that's cold enough to drink very enjoyably, but not cooled in a freezer.

Do not opiates dissolve better in 'warm' acidic water? What might make cold water better for some could be dependent on the seeds. Different strains and brands have different ratios of opiates, different tastes, and different levels of fats/oils. Fats/oils need warmer temperatures to dissolve, so the key is a balance. Cold enough not to dissolve too much fats/oils (which your stomach can reject, making you nauseous) and which also take up solute space that could be used for opiates while worsening the taste, but warm enough to dissolve the opiates fast enough, before the fats and oils accumulate.

I'll try to look up some info and come up with an optimal temperature, because if you have that you can maximize opiates, minimize lipids, and find a closer approximation of the time required to get the desired solute, making it more efficient.

There's definately something to using cold water, I've heard it before, but I have to let it sit too long if the water is too cold.

*goes on an infoquest*

During storage at 4°C of M solutions at a concentration above 20 mg/ml, a white precipitate was formed that was difficult to redissolve. In all samples the pH and the osmolality remained nearly unchanged over the study period, except when stored in PVC containers at 22 and 40°C where there was a gradual increase of the osmolality during storage. In the solutions stored in PVC containers at 22 and 40°C an increase in M concentration of up to 105% of the theoretical concentration was detected after 1 month and 1 week, respectively. The M stands for morphine, which increased in concentration at higher temperature.
Apparently too cold is bad, it lowers solubility. But low ph is very good, down to 5.

I've found conflicting reports of heat's effect on morphin solubility, but the general concensus, as I see it, is that high temperatures increase solubility, but increase degradation, so cold temperatures are needed, despite the loss of efficiency. I still think the lipids dissolve better in warm water too, so definately keep it cold, but too cold and you're not getting optimum solubility efficiency.

Alternatively:

IIRC opiate alkaloids dissolve way better in methanol than water (seriously, ridiculously better), so why not soak seeds in methanol at room temperature or colder for two hours, then let the methanol evapourate in a well ventilated but darkened area. That would leave you with nearly all the opiate alkaloids, along with lipids and other impurities. Much more efficient, and you'd have to consume less nastiness, though more concentrated nastiness.

According to that link hydrochloride dissolves 50mg/ml in water (with 5% dextrose, which increases solubility, so buy some if you can, it's the most basic sugar, look around) at 22 degrees Celsius. Remember that the seeds don't have much morphine on them, and you have to use a lot of water to cover them, plusthe lipids take up solute space, so you won't get 50mg/ml.

I also found that citric acid DOES increase solubility by forming morphine citrate, which is more soluble in water (it also helps through lowering the pH level)

Still no info on the perfect temperature.

I estimate (based on nothing concrete) that poppy seed extraction could achieve maybe 90-150mg per litre. Yeah, way less than the pure chemical, I know, but other things are dissolving too, and there isn't much morphine to dissolve in the first place. That's for 700g-1300g of seeds or so of course depending on strain and brand.

Because the solubility of morphine is relatively high at 22 degrees, and because of the very low quantities of desired solute compared to the high quantities of solvent, a cold temperature's only real purpose is to combat lipids and other compounds dissolving. Lowering the pH and adding citric acid would do far more than cold water.

I found the solubility for natural hydrated morphine the kind found on poppy seeds, though it was very difficult to find, and doesn't list a temperature (assuming room). I can't find anything else out on morphine hydrate for solubility it's all sulphate and hydrochloride, which dissolve well in water.

Apparent M. hydrate only gets 1 gram for every 5 litres. 200mg per litre, then can be the working figure, until someone finds a better one.

It's a little mor than I thought.

Anyway, that's why it's so hard to make good poppy tea. People don't add enough water, or make it too hot, or use too much water and can't drink enough, but most of all, they don't add citric acid. The hydrate is 200mg/L, the citrate is 30-80mg/ml. Note the ml. That's way mor soluble/

I was bored at lunch hour today during work and went to walmart and bought 300 grams of off-brand seeds and sunny d.

Shook 200grams up in about 150ml of SD and drank it aftera few minutes. Wow, comparible to 15mg of oxy with less euphoria but similar effects. Only side affect is my head feels fucked, not in a bad way, just "im kinda fucked up" feeling.
