I need a very small version of Linux for word processing and nothing else
I have an EEEpc 4gb model, and for some reason it refuses to accept Windows.
Oh well. I do like Linux better anyways.
Anyways, all I need is a small version of Linux, prefably ~2gb, since backtrack will also be loaded onto this.
Thanks for any help.

Re: I need a very small version of Linux for word processing and nothing else
Zenwalk is a slackware derivative and will install *by default* under 2GG.
Zenwalk is simple, won't get in your way, no duplicated features, no unneeded shit that runs in the background, fast and eye-candy out of the box.
Here is the very brief manual:
http://manual.zenwalk.org/en/
You can download it here:
http://www.zenwalk.org/modules/tinyc...index.php?id=1
(You can use google for third party mirrors)
You will need to burn it using the *image/iso* option, at max 4x (speed).
EDIT: And of course Abiword is installed by default.

Re: I need a very small version of Linux for word processing and nothing else
I stopped checking this forum for new threads on my 'high priority' totse forums list. 'nazi mods' being the reason.
If you literally _only_ want word processing, then build a gentoo system with only the kernel, various needed libraries, and openoffice (with minimal use flags). You can get even less if you use TeX and EMACS. Use this howto for how to do it. However, you don't need to use busybox, and you should NOT use uclibc.
Once you have that, make an image of the root FS and dd it onto the EEE in BackTrack. Configure the bootloader, and you're in business.
Post how BackTrack is on that thing in NS&H, too. I'd really love to see it in action.
