Firewall most likely. I would suggest checking your port settings and if you can't find the issue then i would try a new torrent client and see if the issue continues.

Re: utorrent stopped working...
I had this problem aswell, I turned off both my firewalls and it still wont connect..
I am, however, connecting to the internet via a university network, would they have a firewall for the whole network that would be causing this problem?

Yes, universities regulate what can and cannot be used on their network. They have programs that will block certain IP addresses if they use a certain amount of bandwidth.

ill try this. Ill check zone alarms settings it might have reset. But with zone alarm everytime i start my computer i get a popup from zone alarm saying "generic host client is trying to connect to the internet" the accept/deny. So i choose accept and i choose the remember this setting button. Then randomly Ill get the same thing again, so im assuming that my client that im connecting to is frequently resetting or something? or am I just talking out of my ass here?

Any way to get around this?
At the moment I'm living at home and in my girlfriends university halls but my home PC is running low on HD space so if I want to download big files I would have to use her laptop

Clean your PC and get more HDD space? There are always ways to get around things but it's not worth the effort. Universities will get on your ass hard if they catch you using torrents for illegal activity.
